I work for a large telecommunications company, which provides free Blackberry (OS7 and 10) devices to managers and execs. That's hundreds of BBs in our environment.

All these BlackBerry users, who belong to the late 20 - mid 50 demographic, barely use BBM in spite of my best efforts to get everyone onboard, with group chats and channels set up for the various the groups.

Pretty much everyone brings a second device, almost overwhelmingly android (Nexus 5s), and uses Hangouts! Doh!

It's been an uphill battle, and hangouts really seems to be overshadowing BBM in my corporate environment.

What are your experiences?

I wouldnt say either is really winning. I dont have any stats on hangouts off hand but I do think each has advantages over the other

I don't know that I'd say Hangouts is winning. I think Google squandered a huge opportunity to make headway, but that is a discussion for another thread. BBM is "more' cross-platform than Hangouts at this time too.

Hangouts has an advantage in two areas: multi-person videochat and desktop functionality. BBM would be more attractive when Voice, Video and Channels go cross-platform IMHO.
