I got a blackberry a couple days ago and I'm trying to get BBM to work. My issue is when someone adds me I don't get the request and when I send them a request they don't get it
Okay since the title is fixed, I'll try to give a proper answer..
Does the network you are connected to have the BlackBerry 4 dots next to it? Are you able to receive anything on bbm at all?
Are you on the latest bbm version?
And invites arrive in a kind of a hidden place maybe you didn't look there?

Yes the network has 4 dots next to it and I'm on the latest version the hidden place your taking about is the first place I looked does have to do with since I got a new phone it needs to activate or it's already active

It should already be active if you put in your BlackBerry id and password... can you contact anyone on bbm or does it give you a red clock?
If it does give a red clock, make sure you have a working data connection then try restarting the phone. Then go to settings > about > network, press the three dots and register BlackBerry..

See if any of that helps..

I have a working data connection, but still no luck any other ideas?
Bbm seem to be down.. I have restarted my BlackBerry z30 all to no avail. It's been over 12 hours now.. I live in Ontario Canada.. is this a general problem?

BBM does not make it easy for a person who hasn't used BlackBerry in the past. My opinion.

I've looked and seen and people say it might be something wrong with the carrier and stuff like that. I'll take it back into the cell phone store and have them look at it
