    Only purpose it serves is to send high rez pics.

    It's slow, relies heavily on wifi and if you travel through spotty areas or outside the house where wifi is scant, it takes a while for the msgs to go through/come in as it negotiates from wifi travel to cellular signal transmission.

    The quality on BBM should be the same as any other app, assuming you've enabled the HD setting (BBM leaves it off by default IIRC).

    It's enabled always. First setting I change on any new phones in my family.
