Now that another company, Rolo, is using BB sticker for it’s messaging app, what’s the latest on BBMe in the consumer space?

Well patents aren't going anywhere at this point....
But it's last update was May 25, 2022, so they are keeping the lights on, even if no one is home.
There could be some vary marginal use cases for government or corporate use of BBM Enterprise, but for the average person or business, it’s simply obsolete. My companies use Slack or Teams for insecure, collaborative asynchronous messaging and Signal for everything else.
We set all Signal messages to delete after a week, so the policy is that all formal communications requiring retention of records be done via our internal, encrypted email system, and we try to convince our clients to also use public key-based email encryption.
We also retain our Slack and Teams data but we’re considering a time limit for those, which is something our lawyer is looking into.
Yeah that's the problem for public companies and especially government agencies, is there are retention laws.... one reason BBM was a big sucess with business is it paired with BES and allowed administrators to easily retain messages, no matter what users did.
Private companies and individuals are pretty much free to do as they want... as long as they aren't involved in some regulated industry. Which is why many companies have to include in their company policies that texting, or messaging application (unless a company approved, supplied and archivable) can't be used for business purposes. Why email is still prefered by some...
But sometimes it is better to feign ignorance and have deniability rather than records of something.
