The question more is - is the BBM connection from a 3rd party device tunneled back to the RIM NOC via a secure channel, or is it just routed over the default APN ?

pretty sure it's the noc as per the images on some of the reports?

I think at the moment since BlackBerry have not really said anything about how BBM cross platform works, it's difficult to say if it is or isn't secure cross platform.

Based on that then I'd say that BBM to BBM on a BB BIS/BES device is slightly secure. Anything involving a 3rd party device is then 'insecure'
