Bbm itself is not anymore secure than any other messaging app on any device including a BlackBerry.

Unless you are on BES or bbm protected services.

    Ditto!

BBM Protected is $40 a year, but worth it in my opinion if you're interested in having a secure chat for any 'crazy' reason or curiosity about using security friendly habits whenever using it isn't too inconvenient.

Nice tutorial here in the forums on how to subscribe online, but unfortunately, no in-app purchase for it.

BBM Protected is end-to-end encrypted with encryption keys residing only in communicating devices.

Court order and bbm protect or no protect the police gets what they want (lawful intercept).

Besides bb's privacy policy talks about messages being stored for a certain point of time in their servers.... which in countries like India means a server setup in Mumbai & BB trained government slueths prying over every email, BBM, BBM Protected, BBM sent over Secusmart tablet, BES or whatever communication passes through a BBM app on a iPhone, android, windows and all non-voice communication on a Blackberry mobile.

The official 2012 press excerpts state BES is not accessible as it's used only by enterprises, but this news is outdated. Everything and anything is accessible in when it comes to Blackberry's secure communication in India and its packets flowing through a Government of India server at mumbai.

As far as I know the Indian server was for BIS.

Chen recently restated they cannot give access to BES as they don't have the keys. This is also why they left Pakistan.
