Just coming from a party where I spoke with 2 people with androids (S3 and S4) who both, believe it or not had BBM installed, but both complained about something super simple, the lack of which however renders the app nearly useless for them:

- whenever they're within a chat they don't receive any notification for newly received messages.

I tried to jump to the rescue, we wigged in settings etc but to no avail. So much for my enthusiasm to promote BBM to them.

The guy said "ok, i'm in a chat with someone, but I don't hold the the phone all the time, I put it down on my desk or in my pocket, and if the chat is open I will not receive a notification for a new message in that chat unless I remember to look at my phone...which defeasts the purpose of an IM app altogether."

Sad but true. Come on BlackBerry, pull your act together finally!...

from the link above - seems it's the same situation with iOS - is that the case??? I'll check with some buddies of mine with iphones who still keep the app (mostly due to my preaching and and in wait of video calls)

I have convinced quite a few of my iOS/Android friends to install bbm, assisted them in getting the notifications profile right (under their puzzled looks why the things doesn't work right off the install button...) but this particular problem, unsolved so far is a bit too much for some unfortunately.

"If it's an IM why isn't it instant?" was one question I got...
