BBChannels is Attractive but Also a Huge Turn Off
Attachment 280580
Channels is gaining some traction. More well known companies are starting take interest. This is all great but there's a monitoring problem that BlackBerry has to fix to keep the experience pleasant.
Recently, BBM posted on their channel in a nice way that they are sick of the slappies posting irrelevant comments or just posting pins. About time they controlled their channel.
I've personally become irritated with the lack of filtered comments. They added no substance to the article and became such a turn off in regards to my level of engagement.
Other channels will most likely have to so the same to keep the integrity of their channel. You may look at this as not a big deal but it kind of is. The problem lies with the monitoring time and resource(s). Companies such as Sports Illustrated would have to apply a resource to not only publish to the channel but to also monitor comments. In a new and un established social media such as BBM Channels, the business case isn't there. Next steps for a channel owner are to either turn off comments or stop the channel all together.
I really like Channels and see the potential but if BBM wants to really get top notch content providers and well known companies to invest time in Channels, they must fix these issues. It affects the content owners and subscribers.
Lastly, I think Disney already jumped ship. Don't think the "official channels" are truly the official channels.
