    Revenue, they need revenue

    They are actually losing money atm with BBM
    Also the implementation of the ads doesn't seem to be that intrusive at all

    But BBM was also a BB only feature, so leave something that makes ours special?

    I hope they keep it off of BlackBerry device. Kinda try to make it into an incentive to get a BlackBerry device to avoid ads on BBM

    They should not have any ads on BBM for BlackBerry users, only for other platforms.

    If they do have ads on the BlackBerry version I may well dump BlackBerry and I suggest many others will do the same.

    This is unacceptable and a terrible idea.

    I hope BlackBerry are listening!

    Reading the BB/Crackberry posts on this, it doesn't sound like it's going to be intrusive so if it helps them get money and start growing again fine with me.

    * Whatsapp didn't advertise.
    * Expanded and will carrying on growing much faster as it utilizes phonebook to populate contacts to spread like a virus.
    * Bought out for $19bil

    * BBM is going to advertise.
    * Grows much slower as relies on sharing of pins.
    * Will not achieve $19bil offer.

    The Facebook/Google is approach is, buy it out, add value, see what happens, try and monetize later. E.G. Bought out Youtube, figured how to make money from it many years later.

    I feel... IF Blackberry start trying to monetize BBM too early before adding a difinitive value proposition to the platform, it will burn them in the long run. I guess they've no choice now...
