For install instruction to load any carrier 8310 OS on your BB:
1. Back up data on Desktop Manager under Back up/restore option
2. Back up your 3rd party apps. Instructions here--> http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...cations-53201/
3. Disconnect your BB from Desktop Manager
4. Download desired OS to your PC
5. Install/run OS to PC
6. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader if the OS is not from your carrier.
7. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.
8. Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.
***Steps 2 is optional but recommended
****File Free/OS Memory Leak OS Version Report
*****Will keep each OS results posted as i run the OS, also i welcome others to report their results/experience(s)*****
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.
Been running .110 since this morning, eh, no noticible differance. Was trying to test .108, but wiped and install .110. Will post throughout how FF is and if its as responsive as .99.
guys my cousins blackberry is getting errror 507 and sometimes error 561. I launch the loader again but it always gets an error after putting applications back in. Any help would be appreciated.
I am upgrading and it always gets an error, i tried about 7 times now.
edit: i just realized it said NOT to delete vendor.xml if i have at&t, does anyone have the vendor.xml file?
edit2: i found the file in the recycle bin. I will try again
Just installed it and got my first look. Options, Status reveals slightly more memory. More later if I find anything worth posting. I hope that I don't.
Life would be nice if the wireless upgrade actually worked.
Download the OS, get CrackMem from my signature. Get Desktop Manager and your are all set.
OTA upgrades are very recent for BlackBerrys. Downloading the OS is the usual way for us.
Read the 1st post and check out link that the OP gave.
If you have problems, come back here and someone will help you out although it would be better if you got to know your phone and CrackBerry a little better before you embark on the upgrade path. When you customize, things can and do go wrong.
Two weeks ago we loaded 4.5.0.81 on our AT&T-branded 8310s, and it has been a HUGE improvement over 4.2 in functionality (more readable fonts, HTML email, nicer gui for messages, calendar, addressbook, etc.).
Is there any value in going through this (the customizations for installed apps) again by updating to the AT&T release? Does anybody know the differences between .110 and .81?
Thus far the release seems very stable.
The page navigation and icon maneuvering seems to be very snappy.
Fonts are crisp and clear as with the other 4.5 upgrades I tried.
My initial File Free is better than the two other 4.5 versions that I tried,
.102 and .108 respectively.
I did use CrackMem (Thx Pete!) to pluck out the P.T.T and V.A.D that I have no use for.
I deleted the "Carrier Theme" as well as "Sample Video"
The 3rd party apps. installed are:
1) Google Maps
2) Chronograph
3) BB notepad
4) Bubble Popper
5) You-Version Bible (launcher)
6) Weather Channel (launcher)
I hope the intermittently inoperative Standby / Mute issue is gone, this will take a few days to verify.
