I've had my Pearl for about 2 weeks now and I love this thing, but yesterday I stumbled upon my first "problem" with the Pearl ... albeit a minor problem. I had a number to dial in which part of the number was provided as a word -- e.g., 1-800-BEST-BUY. Since the Pearl doesn't have the letters in place that correspond to a typical telephone, I wasn't able to dial the number. I knew that the number "1" was skipped, and then "abc" began with number "2." However, I remembered that a couple of numbers had 4 letters and, at the time, I did not remember that it was the "7" and the "9."
So, I'm thinking that I'll just put a little note in the MemoPad that states what letters are associated with what numbers. Before doing that, I was just wondering if anybody has come up with a better solution.
Your solution works perfectly for dialing numbers like 1-800-BEST-BUY.
However, it does not work when already on an active call. For example, let's say you call a company and it's after business hours. You will typically get a voice prompt that says "dial the first 3 letters of the last name of the person you're trying to reach." In this instance, your method does not work.
Of course. I was on an active call trying to navigate a company directory by typing the first 3 letters of a person's last name. When I hit alt-p in order to type a "p," it kicked me out to speakerphone.
(note: letter "s" is a quick double tap on "a s" key, letter "y" is a quick double tap on "t y" key)
you feel me knockin'?

i tried it on my 8130 just now and it worked so..... whose yer daddy? c'mon... whose yer daddy? thats right....daddybear...
ha ha. just kidding. have fun with the pearl... i love the 8130..
It doesnt work with 4.2.1.96 OS, does anyone know of any updates coming to fix this issue? I downgraded back to 4.2.0.73 and it works fine but this version doesn not support separate inbox for SMS which I dont like.
I tried typing "best buy" on my curve but then when I tried the "e", it was automatically the #2. Now, I'm old skool and remember the days of typing a text message on my Nokia where I only had 10 keys and had to type the #2 x3 for a c!
I was driving through Tampa and heard and the local radio station offered a killer set of tickets to the next 10 callers... I grabbed my BB and went nuts trying to dial the number! Needless to say I didn't get those tickets, but now I have been educated!
ok...ready?
press and hold the alt key and type b e s t b u y
release alt key

HOLY CRAP! It works, this is the best Monday ever! I have a "vanity' toll free number for my business (877-PammyTA) so now I know all your BB users have a much easier time then the rest of the world in dialing my number!
YOU'RE MY DADDY FOR SURE! lol (as a newbie to the Crackworld it takes so little to impress me! )
