Tether you blackberry for free with the new Desktop Manager
- **Apparently this is for T-Mobile users only. Verizon and ATT customers seem to have to have a login/password. I can't edit the title of the thread, so, sorry if you came in here and ended up disappointed
Hey guys, you no longer NEED any tethering program. I downloaded the new desktop manager (version 5.0.1.37) and it allows you to tether for free. I'm posting this from my laptop right now through my carriers network.
~Hook your BB to your laptop
~Launch Desktop Manager (DM)
~Click "IP Modem"
~Click "Configure" and select your carrier where it says "Connection Profile"
~Check if you want to keep the connection when closed out of DM
~Click "OK"
~Now click "Connect" and wait for it to connect
And you're off!!! No more need to buy any programs to tether your BB to your Laptop. So far it works really well. I found out that my network isn't slow, it's just my phone that's slow. I can load stuff a whole lot faster on the laptop than the phone (which I know has to do with the mediocre processor in the phone).
But anyway, check out the new DM if you haven't already. I'm running DM version 5.0.1.37 [March 10 2010] for the BlackBerry Curve 8900.Last edited by matrix86; 05-20-10 at 07:51 PM.

This is the first time i've heard about the new DM doing this. Of all the searching i've done about tethering, this method never came up.
For those who have to enter a login/password, do your carriers charge you for it? It might be as simple as calling them to have you approved to use it (just my guess). The more ya'll fill me in, the less of an ***** I look like, lol.05-20-10 07:49 PMLike 0 - Where did you get the new desktop manager. I went to the BlackBerry website today and didn't see it? What about Sprint users? This would be nice to have. With all the new devices coming out with mobile hotspot capabilities, this is a great way for BlackBerry devices to stay competitive. Thanks for the information.

Verizon will CHARGE EXTRA for tetheing. It's NOT as simple as just "calling them to have you approved".05-20-10 08:22 PMLike 0
