POUI - Problem of Unknown Origin

Okay, I tried to do a search for this, but I wasn't able to find my answer because I'm not exactly sure what my problem is.

I was under the impression (perhaps incorrect) that if I took pictures with my phone and then backed up my phone using the Desktop Manager, I would be able to view these pictures on my pc regardless of whether my phone is present or not.

However, when I try to open up those "backup" files, my computer tells me it doesn't know what program to use to open it. It then asks me if it can look online for the answer. It then tells me that it can't find the answer.

How can I get pictures to my computer so that I can then view/send those pictures?

I will tell a little bit about my computer since perhaps that information is relevant. It's a Dell, a laptop, and it has that new Windows system on it. My phone is a Curve and uses 4.5 OS, and I have the newest version of Desktop Manager (I think it's 5.0). It does offer a "media manager" option, but I don't know exactly what to do with it.

If you want to view the pictures on your laptop, you'll either A) view them using a USB cord or B)insert the media card into the laptop itself.
