So I just bought a Pearl off craiglist as my first BB (to hold me over untill the 9630 is dropped) and have a few questions...

    1) I wiped the phone (twice actually) when I first got it. Is it safe to assume there is no password active on the phone if I myself haven't done it since the Wipe. I am nervous that the previous owners Password is active and I won't be able to unlock the device one I 'Enable' the password option. Which leads me to my next question...

    2) I wouldn't be so nervous to just try it if I could download the Desktop Manager to back-up my device. However, when I go to RIM's website and fill out the form to get it, it just says to "verify all information provided is current and correct" on the page where you put in your personal info....and therefore I can't get the Desktop Software. How do I get the DS? Can I with a used BB that didn't come with the CD?

Question's a bit long-winded, but I'd greatly appreciate feedback from the all those seasoned vets out there...
    Thanks.

(Not a seasoned Vet, I actually did the same thing that you did in terms of buying the phone from craigslist as a holdover until my NE2 is up again and the 9630 is out)

For #2, there is a radio box right below where you fill in all of your information; asking you to verify that everything is correct. Just select Yes (Defaults to No), and you should be able to download the DM software.

    1. When you re-enable the password, it will ask you to create a new one. When you wiped it it removed the old user's password.

    2. I'm assuming you were trying to download from here...? https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...7t9KIL6sIcig**

The screen to which you are referring just asks you to enter your own info, not the previous user's info - click on "verify info is current and correct" and you're good to go.

I would recommend version 4.6 without media manager.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Ahhh so it sounds like I need to open my eyes a little and find the check box!

I'll have to give it a whirl tonight after work, back-up, then set the password.

Thank you, both, for you help!
