I had 0 luck trying to install using the DM method, after also having tried every OTA link. I got the "not compatible" error with DM.
I moved all of the .cod files over to the JAVA folder, then moved the .alx file to the 8330-v4.5.0.160_P3.4.0.41 folder, used AppLoader.exe and it installed perfectly.
i have tried to follow all the instructions but in the DM it says 'upgrade' but if i click on details and into modules it lists all the .cod files but then says 'not installed'
I know someone that downloaded it ota by going to stormota.com and it seems to work fine for them.if posting the link is a no no someone feel free to let me know.
Hope this helps someone.

Hey! Thanks for everyone's great advice so far. I installed the new BBM 5.0 and desktop 5.0 last night. However, I was under the impression with 5.0 you could SMS and BBM all within the new BBM 5.0. The video I watched indicated you just have to go to add a new contact and type in a mobile number. I only have the option to enter a pin or email address. I was curious to see how it is for others. Any comments, feedback or advice would be appreciated.
alright, im new to the forums and i have the 8330 for verizon...i read everything and im going to attempt to update my OS and then my BBM. thanks to those who posted the swift links and everything.. ill be back to let you know how everything went.

You can install it ota if you can find a link that works, however I must warn you many people have had bad luck after installing it ota such as the messenger completely disappearing So I would strongly suggest backing up your os on your pc before you try either method ota or dm.. I am not quite sure what ota you can use either, most of us in this thread used desktop manager

I posted the link at the beginning of the thread..
FYI... The message below is what is now displayed when you click on the Desktop link (Zip for desktop installation) as far as I know last night when I checked the site, it was suspended. The only links now available for download are the OTA's. If someone has a link to the desktop zip file please post it for others to download. Thanks....

Are you sure?, I'm not talking about the site your link referes to, I'm talking about the first seven links after you get to the site, i.e. the following all show Page Not Found:
Download BlackBerry Messenger 5.0 for your BlackBerry (ZIP for desktop installation):
Storm 9500 Series <---broken link
Tour 9630 <---broken link
Bold 9000 <---broken link
Curve 8900 <---broken link
Curve 8300 Series (OS 4.5.0.131+ ONLY) <---broken link
BlackBerry Messenger files (ZIP for desktop installation):
BlackBerry on OS 5.0 <---broken link
BlackBerry on OS 5.1.0 <---broken link
Many of these sites are being asked to take them down by RIM, which would explain why the links are no longer working. I've found several so far that have updated their posts with "Links removed at the request of RIM's attorneys", "Links removed at the request of RIM", "Links removed due to legal reasons", etc..
ive been tryin the all the ota links and i keep getting the same error message 907 invalid cod file not found......i cant find the desktop install anywhere
im runnin a verizon 8330 with telus .160 with no luck
