I have version 4.6 on my 8520. But I installed the latest bbm because I simply like it, and I use it a lot.

But I want to install apps, but I can't do it with desktop manager because wants to downgrade my bbm or remove it.

I got the alx and cod is there any other way of installing it?

you can download most apps if not all from your phone...they usually send an email and you download from that link.

There is also a software that converts .alx files to .jad/cod files, so you can install right from the memory card (using the .jad).

Try going offline before using Desktop Manager.
Also, what do you mean? Desktop Manager tries to uninstall blackberry messenger 5?

Check the settings, when I first upgrade to bbm5 after installing/uninstalling any app, desktop manager was trying to uninstall the previous version of bbm, but don't worry nothing happens so you should be fine...
