how to access my backup?

I made a backup of my BB last week. Since then I've lost some data.

I'd like to see the contents of my backup, or at least my phone numbers. Is there a way to do this without restoring the BB? I know how to do the latter but for now I'd just like to open up the contacts in a spreadsheet.

If I could access my Memos as well that'd be great.

And you do know that you can selectively restore individual parts of your backup ... For example, you can choose to just restore the contacts, or phone call logs, or messages, etc.

i have that but it only allows you to extract 5 items unless you register it for $25 or so.

I have been going through a similar phase; lost my work blackberry and am now using my personal 2009 iPhone 3GS.
The iPhone had no work contacts or other data as there was on my blackberry. What helped me was a software similar to the one MobileMadness has suggested by was far lighter on my pockets.
For $10, I got Blackberry Extractor which extracts contacts, sms, memos, tasks and calling history. See if this one helps you.
