    Hey all,

I have a passport, windows XP pro and installed Blend, however, when launching, windows comes up with an error box that a Dll is missing.
Any suggestions? I hope blend is compatible with XP.

Microsoft no longer supports Windows XP which means no more updating drivers. ( No more security fixes. No more updates of any kind! Eventually, the OS will just stop working altogether.
    A "Dll" is a driver!

You may be able to do a "google" search if you know the name of the missing driver...
but, all things considered.. it's time to upgrade your OS!

Thanks. Thought about the Windows update, but everything except Blend works very well. I'd really Like to see if there becomes a remedy for this before considering upgrading the OS.

I'll try to post a screen shot and perhaps someone has encountered the same, but while I am typing this, the phone just launched yesterday, so I won't hold my breath.

    Thanks again.

Windows XP is not supported on Blend. From the landing page itself:

BlackBerry Blend works across the following operating systems:

    Desktop:

    Mac OS X 10.7 +
    Windows 7 +
    Tablet:

    iOS 7 +

Yeah, I found the KB article (lol)', but there is no valid reason that it should not work on XP pro or Vista business. If Link works, Blend should too IMO.

    P.S.

Blend.exe cannot be invoked on an antique of PC of mine (running Winodws XP) . . . a popped-up error message reads "The procedure entry point SetCurrentProcessExplicitAppUserModelID could not be located in the dynamic link library SHELL32.dll."

Please note that SetCurrentProcessExplicitAppUserModelID function does not exist in SHELL32.dll files shipped with Windows XP and Windows Vista. (Please refer to SetCurrentProcessExplicitAppUserModelID function or SetCurrentProcessExplicitAppUserModelID function.)

It is fatal . . . we may install on Windows XP and Windows Vista only those SHELL32.dll files which are distributed by Microsoft for Windows XP and Windows Vista respectively. Alas . . . Windows XP has been discontinued and Windows Vista will be discontinued on April 11, 2017. (Please refer to Windows lifecycle fact sheet.)

We will have to obtain source codes and recompile them for Windows XP and Windows Vista, I suppose.

DLL stands for Dinamy-link library, it is not a driver.

OP, Windows XP is no longer supported by anyone you should upgrade your OS even if Blend would work.

Can you please tell me what the exact error message is when you try to open Blend?

Actually there are two or more reasons why it will not work on XP.

XP is no longer supported. If MS doesn't support it, why should Blackberry.

Since it is no longer supported, XP will not be safe to use for a security focused product like those Blackberry provides like Blend.

There are new APIs (or programming features) in Windows 7+ that are needed for functionality. .NET being one of them and the newer .NET isn't supported by XP.

Link may not be written to the new programming requirements but may be upgraded in a new version that XP is no longer supported.

Time to upgrade. Our business software in the company has the same issues, but we changed to Windows 7 company wide before XP went EOL. Time for you to do the same.

DDL stands for Dynamic Link Library in which all the system DRIVERS are stored!

The bottom line here is simple. I don't have any problems with my computers and have never had any problems with any of my mobile devices.EVER!!!
You ask for help but don't want to except it!

THAT's the first problem you should work on. (imo)
Once that's fixed, you'll have no problem with the other issues!

Considering the 20 replies aren't useful to you, you have only one other choice.
Get rid of your mobile device!

Keep XP though! Within a few months your computer will shut down and you'll be right where you should be...... NO WHERE!!

    ((in my opinion, of course!)
