I had the same problems and the fix is to go into the phone and disable the Mass Storage. I was able to open BBD and update or sync the phone. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with Blackberry Desktop 6.1.

My issue is not related to my devices as I've got them both powered down.
I've moved my video files as suggested.
I've uninstalled completely and re-installed.
Only think left to do is a roll back to a previous version.
The links in this thread don't seem to be current any more however.
Anyone else got any bright ideas? Or a previous version installer handy?
Win7 Pro SP1 32Bit
EDIT: I also don't seem to have a desktop.log file as previously discussed.
Just done a complete uninstall, registry clean, removed the dir of my OS drive.
Rebooted.
Did a reinstall on a different drive.
Still no love.

I don't understand that part of it at all.
I'm going to start looking for a roll back version of DM.
has anyone got the installer files for the 6.x release of DM before the current one?
I feel like rolling back to that will cure myproblem...at least until RIM gets its $hit together.
I'm having the same problem with version 6.x not even starting up. I've tried everything I possibly could (and I'm very experienced with this type of thing). Even tried ones I found on the site and online for kicks. No luck.
I ended up going back to 5.x
Been trying very hard to install Blackberry Desk Top manager but no luck! here are the details:
- Desk top manager version 6.1 - downloaded image name "610_b034_multilanguage.exe"
- PC system - Window XP 64-bit. I also installed the hotfix "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968730" recommended for the OS SW at the site "http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/system_requirements.jsp"
- i did many install (via IE and Firefox) / remove
all with no luck! :(
When i try to start the Desktop manager i get the message "BlackBerry Desktop Software has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." and wants to send info to Microsoft!
same problem with me...:(
im using windows 7 32bit....
any solution?
So I gave up and rolled back to DM5.
Problem I've got now looks like the attached picture.
The software fires up and is essentially stalled waiting for a device to connect.
I've tried my 9810, my 16G Playbook, I even broke out my 8310 to see if it was just expecting a device around the same time period.
Nothing.
I'm really bored of not being able to sync my RIM devices to my work on the PC.
Short of a freakin' complete reinstall of windows! I don't know where I'm going wrong here.
So the update goes like this... couldn't get V5 to connect.
downloaded the latest version of DM6. Installed it. The software seems to be self healing.
Literally every time I open it, it gets a little further but always ends up going non responsive and crashing.
I actually managed to do a complete back up of my Playbook on Friday.
Nuts.
bdm installed, but only opens to empty window?
anyone else?
So as stupid as this sounds. I've got DM6.1 stable, up and running in a Windows XP Virtual Machine under Windows 7 Prof. 32Bit.
I've just done a complete backup of my 9810 and I'm going to attempt an OS install on there.
If this doesn't work I may be screwed as I have no way to get my DM under the VM to see my outlook file to sync my data.
Maybe I'll install outlook under the VM and have it refer to my PST file under win7. Seems like a pretty bas ackwards way of doing things!?
