I open the Desktop Manager and connect my device and it just stays at the "Checking for device application updates. Please wait..." (I've left it here for at least 10 minutes one time and it shouldn't take that long, I assume) and when I click cancel the program freezes.

What am I supposed to do to upload apps and backup/restore my phone, etc, if I can't get the program to load?

Try restarting your computer, if that doesn't work uninstall DM and then reinstall it

I'm having the same issue. I can't get my 8900 to do anything after being connected to my PC and DM. When I try to set the synchronize configuration options, the application goes all gray and freezes. I cant even do a back up transfer for the same reason. So for now my 8900 has none of my contacts

I called TMO and ran through some options including:

    1. reinstalling DM
    2. rebooting PC
    3. Rebooting 8900
    4. 'Cleaning up' contacts for bad characters
    5. attempting device transfer wizard

It's really frustrating. I have looked around and I cant seem to find anyone who is having the same problem as me...which makes it even weirder since I have been using this same computer and DM for my old curve and before that my even older pearl and it always worked fine.

    Any help is appreciated!

I have tried 4.6 and 4.7 both from blackberry's site. I also tried the default 4.7 that cames in the starter CD with the 8900.

One thing I forgot to mention is that after the initial connection, when the blackberry has the black screen with the computer to phone icons - - it goes back to the home screen.

I just got my 8900 yesterday and I'm having the identical problem. Everything works fine on my DM up until I click on a section from the main menu. Then I get a number of different things. Most recently I get an hourglass for as long as I let it sit there. The only fix is either unplug my 8900, or CTL+ALT+DEL and "end task". Ive reloaded DM 3 times. Twice from the CDROM and once from the BB wesite.
