Hello, I have the same error as other users trying to connect my new BB9720 with desktop 7.1 windows 7.

The solution was posted here: https://forums.crackberry.com/deskto.../#post13455809

But the files to patch the error in the link are no longer on line. Does anyone have them or another link please?

Is there any other way to connect via USB? I think BB might be proprietary and not work as a standard USB device for security reasons perhaps?

I would like to transfer files an tether to use my BB9720 as a modem.

I don't have the files, but looking at the list, it seems that the only file that involves essential alterations would be the DeviceCharacteristics.xml file. It can be found here: https://www.blackberry.com/Desktop/D...cteristics.xml

So in theory, you should be able to save that file as DeviceCharacteristics.xml, follow the directions in the other thread and add in the pic for bb9720.png. That pic should be the file in the first post of this thread: https://forums.crackberry.com/blackb...und-dm-826932/

Hopefully you don't absolutely need to add all of the .png files listed in the original solution, because each pic has a different checksum.

Thank you for asking this question. I just got a 9720 this week, after being without a blackberry for 10 years. I've really missed it, but I was starting to panic when I couldn't get the desktop app to work.

If you were going to "panic" at this point... what will you do on Jan 5th?

I mean, I would have still tried to figure this out, but I didn't expect a problem like this right outside of the box. Are you talking about the 3G shutdown? In Canada, there are still a few carriers who offer 2G and 3G, but companies are phasing things out. I wonder if you can add updates or manual changes to your phone to upgrade them, if necessary. I plan to look into things further.

Oh. I found out yesterday. That’s disappointing. Thankfully, this phone is a “side” phone for me, and I’ll use it for as long as I can.

Here is the working link to the zip file with the full patch mentioned above:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Cpa...ew?usp=sharing

    File: 710_b042_multilanguage_bb9720.zip
    MD5: 5F8E8FB462F131FF596D237DC1D0D655

I created the thread the OP is referring to but it is now marked as "Closed" so I can not edit it to replace the dead link with the working link.
