Can the Desktop manager be used to back up another phone which is not a Blackberry phone? A friend lost his BB 8900. He has all of his contacts in the Desktop manager back up. When he gets another phone, which BTW will not be a black berry but another T Mobile phone with a sim can he use the Desktop Manager to up load the contacts on to his new phone? Thanks

You can't use Desktop Manager to load your backup onto a non-BlackBerry smartphone. However, all is not lost. You can use ABC Amber BlackBerry Convertor to extract the Address Book entries from your ipd file and export them as a comma-delimited text file. You should then be able to read that text file into your new phone. ABC has a free trial, so it won't cost you anything to try.
