    Hello All,

I DM v5.01 and want to switch my data from one device to another. I need to be able to take my data from one 9700 tonight and then lay it on to a new Bold 9700 tomorrow.

Is this possible or do I need both device immediately present at the same time?

    Any help greatly appreciated

I didn't have to have both phones plugged in at the same time if thats what you mean. When i transferred my info from my 8900 to my 9700, i plugged in the 8900 first. It took all the info, then prompted me for my new phone. Perhaps you could start the process and leave the computer on til you get the new one.. Then plug it up and resume?

Probably a better way of doing it though. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, you can do a Device Switch in DM. Both can be connected if you prefer. You can also do a back up and then restore to the new device, one at a time.

Thanks for the relies. No I won't have the phones at the same time so was thinking about leaving the PC on!

But as the last poster said. Can I just load a straight backup from one 9700 to another without issue?

    Tx

When do you switch the SIM card from the old to new device?

You can create a file and save it on your desk top (name it "contacts" and then when you get your new phone you can use desktop manager again to upload that file to the new phone. Use the backup and restore function on BB desktop manager to create the backup file and then use the same function to upload the contacts. It took me about 5 minutes.
