I have this problem as well. Any help here?
Sounds like the file is set to "read only". Browse to the "bth.inf" file, right click and go to properties, uncheck the box next to "read only".

I actually figured it out. I had to go to "security" in the doc properties and change my "user" profile to be able to modify the document. After that I was able to save it.
However, when I restarted my computer and plugged in my bluetooth dongle, it says it was loading some stuff, but nothing is there when I double click on the bluetooth icon in the system tray. Also, nothing appears bluetooth-wise under My Computer. So basically nothing loaded, which your last step says the drivers and everything should load.
Any ideas?
No ideas here. This process was tested using XP. I have been able to skip Vista, so I've not tried.

Yes I forgot to mention I'm using Vista.
Hmm...I was really hoping this would work. I might try doing the process over again tonight.
I'm not at home so I can't verify if my setup is correct, but would following these steps help with the overall sync process?
My BB can connect to the desktop via bluetooth, however the sync just locks up after a period of time.
Took those steps and all worked well. Thanks!!!

Hi Connert
How the **** do you guys find out all these tricks, after battling for many months I found your step by step solution and ..... success. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Connert, I had to register because I wanted to say Thank You! The steps as outlined worked perfectly. After 2 or more years of waiting for a solution I can now say good bye to the cable and sync via BT. Nice work!
I understand that this is a very old thread but it does appear to describe my same problem, e.g being able to sync BB to PC, yet DM properties for syncing are greyed out, even though I am running W7 on a new ThinkPad with built-in BT and a BB Curve 8330/4.5.0.175 Sprint with built-in BT, as opposed to the Vista PCs and extra BT devices added to BB later, as described here.
I tried to follow the instructions, but get stuck at step 2. Clicking on the properties of the BT file in the Device Manager brings up a box with a single tab that says "general" and a picture of the BT icon, but none of it is clickable and there is no "Details" tab anywhere.
Is there a different fix for the same problem when dealing with BT that was factory-installed in both the Curve and the ThinkPad. Computer and BB swear they are linked and show up in each others BT connections, but my BB PIN is not printed in the lower left corner of the Desktop Manager software, and all file syncing and transfer options are greyed out. Help! The only thing I can use the BT for, is testing the Tether trial, which can run fine on BT, just no way to connect it to the BB DM itself.
I have been trying to solve this for a year.
Maybe now my HP bluetooth printer will work also.
OP!!!! You rock!!! I have been messin with my damn BT and my Storm 2 all friggin day. I find your post and literally 10 minutes later it is working!!!! YOU ABSOLUTELY ROCK!!!!

Thanks for the elaborate explanation. However, I am a novice in these matters.:o
I tried to go step by step as described by you, but was stumped at step 6 onwards. I use a Fujitsu Laptop (s6311). The bluetooth driver installed is
of Toshiba. This is the display on the "Device Instance Id" "BLUETOOTH\0004&0007\0000"
Can you please guide me after this.
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards,
Sidhartha
