I'm actually running BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 5 on a Windows XP Professional SP3 computer: No problems noticed.
Once I do install BlackBerry Desktop Manager version 6, the application doesn't start anymore: it crashes just after displaying the splash screen.

    Thanks

    Just do a clean reinstall.

Use add/Remove Programs then reboot after removing.

Then go to the Blackberry website and download and install. You should be good.

Not certain what it is about the Desktop Manager but I find this happens every now and again with another problem of the drivers suddenly not finding my phone that is plugged in.

    I did more than that.
I followed a tutorial I think it was on BB's official website (not sure though), telling to delete files in the applications data folder, a couple of registry keys, restart and reinstall, but nothing.

I get the same crash, but it's only with the auto-updater. I'd just uninstall, run CCleaner, reinstall it and rid the crash

Right, but how do you "uninstall" the app, are you doing it from Control Panel/AddRemove Programs?
If so, it does not work.

    Read my post here

Make sure you remove any .NET (which is a huge PITA by itself...regardless of BBDM, BTW). Then the best way to uninstall DM is to run the installation file again, if it is installed it will ask you if you want to Repair or Remove. Choose Remove, re-boot and start from scratch.

    Hi,

I did uninstall the app using the add/remove control panel, selected the remove personal settings, did start CCleaner scripts, restarted the computer, reinstalled BBDS.

    And ...

    Actually doing another try...
    Don't I need .net things?
Many applications did ask me for the components, I'd rather keep them for my safety (it's a business computer).

Hopeless... I did uninstall the application using the CP remover and started the clean registry routine on CC: same error on start up....

A similiar thing happened to me. Like the others recommended, I deleted everything (inc registry entries) and did a complete fresh install. It seemed to fix itself and works fine now. Good luck!

Had to format my HD because of a problem.
Did an install of the BB Software on a clean install: same bug.

Maybe you just need to stick to an older version.
