It started off wonderful. Then it turned into Remote File Access redux. BlackBerry really needs to get remote connections between device and desktop stable. Blend is not consistently connecting. Sometimes it does, most of the time it doesn't, complaining of either security software or just simply reporting that it cannot connect. Heck, I even have had it fail with a direct USB cable connection.

I am not bothering to put setup details and what I have tried in here at this time because it seems all current solutions are dead ends. What I will say is that I'm quite sure that it is not any security software blocking it, because then it would be blocked 100% of the time, and I've checked to ensure things such as Windows Firewall are set to allow Blend through. I have tried Blend on my netbook which is lighter on security and doesn't utilize Software Restriction Policy which could possibly affect some things like services that need to run, but nope; the same issues occur. Such a disappointment.

Mine is working like a charm. I use it over the mobile network in the office (4G connection) which is super fast!

At home have the phone on either ipad or laptop over the wifi. Ipad is a bit slow but laptop works brilliantly.

Never had any issues with firewall or security. At work we have mega security and firewalls but the blend still works.

Which is exactly my point - it's Blend, just like Link's Remote File Access (RFA), working great for some and horribly intermittent for others. It isn't security software - that's just what people like to use as an excuse.

So you're suggesting that a majority of users are experiencing the same issues as you? I've never had issues connecting with Blend, it works fine on my end (Windows 7 desktop).

What platform are you using? Mac OS X or Windows? Are you also using it on a tablet? iPad or Android?

Sorry for your frustrations, but before posting a rant about how awful BlackBerry Blend is, perhaps you should poll the community to see if you're in the minority...

Are you able to connect to link? I though connecting to link was the first requirement. If link is not connected either, use a USB to connect it and then after making sure WiFi connection is checked, pull out the USB. At least that is what I have done when link gives me problems.

Well, I can say it's connected about half the time for me. Of those times that it's worked, it froze twice while transferring pictures (trying to view SD card from Dell Venue 11). No issues at home, but going from one vlan to another at work was hit and miss. Lucky for me, blend is a convenience and not a necessity... just a feature to show off.

I am having similar issues as the OP. Blend was working well for me last week (on my ASUS, Windows 8.1 laptop) and then completely stopped! My Z30 says "disconnected" and won't connect to Blend, even with USB. I've scoured through most of the threads here on this issue, looking for a solution. I've also tried a clean (nuke) install of 10.3.1.2708, from .2558, with no change. I'm actually beginning to wonder if it's OS on the phone and not desktop Blend which is the problem, because although Link works fine, I can no longer access my computer files from my phone either.

For the most part, Blend has been connecting well between my device and various laptops. The only times I encounter connectivity issues are when I disconnect the USB connection (to take my Passport with me when I leave my desk) and then re-connect it again via USB. At times, it hangs in trying to re-connect via USB even though the device is clearly recognized and connected with my computer.

Lots of variables that go into reliable remote connections using blend or link. Locally on the computer firewall/antivirus security software and also at the router level with the firewall and security settings there as well. Probably why there some who use it with no problems and others who do.

When I get to work in the morning, I often have to close and reopen Blend on the PC to get it to work.

When my PC and phone are on same subnet, no issues. When I go to another part of the building and now on another subnet, it takes Blend a while to time out and reconnect. That can be smoother on detection and retry.

But if I leave blend open on my work pc, I get notifications in the hub blend is connected, often when I didn't think it would (ie highway driving).

Installed the beta blend yesterday, so far seems a bit better for connectivity.

Knowing whether you are nat'd or double nat'd, what OS you're using and whether ipv6 is enabled on your PC, etc, are important to know. Your experience is clearly not the majority. Bugs will get worked out over time, but can't help much without details.

If Link isn't working either I suspect it'll be on the desktop end. Have you recently added any other software to the desktop recently, including Windows updates? And any applications that might use virtual networking like Virtual Box or VMWare?

FIRST, on your Quick Settings tap on Blend and see under "Connections" if your desktop computer is listed and it's On (Blue). If not, check under Settings and go to Device Connections to make sure "Allow Connections" is on.

If that looks good, then if you haven't tried this already, pull down the latest copies of Link and Blend here:

BlackBerry Link - BlackBerry 10 Smartphone to Computer Sync - US
BlackBerry Blend ? Desktop Software for BlackBerry - US

Then do a full uninstall of your current Link and Blend. And on your Z30 turn off Allow Device Connections (Settings : Device Connections) and turn off Blend under Quick Settings. Pull power on your modem (and wireless router if separate). Reboot the computer and when it's settled, plug in the modem and then the wireless router (if separate). Then reinstall Link, then BlackBerry Blend (and make sure you check to update Link or Drivers if that option is there). It might require another reboot, in which case do so.

Just for fun, reboot the Z30 (can't hurt). And go to Settings, Device Connections and turn it back on. Then under Quick Settings tap Blend and make sure your PC is listed and turned on (Blue). Then, try opening Blend and see if it discovers your Z30. And try going to File Manager and hit the bottom left tabs to see if it's finding your PC remotely as well.

If not, is there a specific error message you're seeing on Blend (desktop)? Hopefully this will help. It's a lot of steps but the thought is to force a reset between the devices to get it going again. The fact that it suddenly stopped working out of the blue suggests to me that something on Windows (an installation probably) has come between the devices.. Good luck, let us know if it helped.

The thing is Link IS working. I haven't added any recent software (except updating the OS on the phone). I did update Windows, but that was only after I started experiencing problems. I have the latest versions of Link and Blend installed. Ipv6 is enabled on my PC.

When I look at Blend on my phone, my laptop is listed, however, it says "Disconnected" although everything is enabled (blue) in Blend and Device Connections. I have rebooted my routers, my laptop and my phone. Blend sees my phone and tries to pair with it by wifi/usb. It even gives me a pairing code... and then tells me that it can't connect. As I mentioned earlier, I also cannot connect from my phone to my PC through File Manager.

I'm not getting any other error messages on Blend.

NP, and I know it's a bit of work to completely uninstall the software and reinstall but it's honestly the first thing I'd do if it were me personally. Between completely removing and reinstalling the software and rebooting your home network that should bring you closer to a solution. Obviously there's no guarantee it will work, but it's not really that much of your time to solve an issue that's no doubt frustrating and keeping you from using Blend. Totally up to you, but I find that uninstalling / reinstalling has worked many times for me in the past as a general troubleshooting technique for other issues on the desktop. It's the more extreme version of turning it off and on again, heh.

You can try an ipconfig /all in command prompt and look for the BlackBerry Virtual Private Network and see if everything looks ok and all fields are filled to see if anything looks amiss.

And failing that, you can right click on Blend in the system tray and (a) try manually starting on USB and/or (b) choose to have it Collect Logs and try to open a support ticket with BlackBerry and let them have the log files.

But again, honestly, I'd try completely removing and reinstalling the software first (Blend, Link AND Drivers) and rebooting the network first as it's solved Windows / networking issues for me in the past. Nothing ventured, nothing gain, lol. Good luck.

While hunting around for a solution, I did notice that the BlackBerry Virtual Private Network was flagged in Device Manager (in Windows), so, I did do an uninstall/reinstall of Link/Blend/Drivers, but unfortunately, it didn't change anything, I still couldn't connect. I uninstalled everything again, signed up for the Blend beta, then installed the beta and Link separately. NOW, I am able to connect to Blend via usb and wifi! However, My Z30 still cannot view files on my PC through Device Connections and my PC is no longer listed in File Manager (which is new).

Still not 100%, but I'm getting there. Thanks for the help!

I've avoided complete reinstallation (thus far) due to several anecdotal reports of issues persisting regardless.

The fact that Blend cannot connect to my device (maybe 25% of the time) through a direct USB connection (no mass storage mode) tells you there it is unreliable software. Anybody that says otherwise is just pretty much being a fan boy seeing as I've tried many troubleshooting steps and again, it's a blood cable connection with properly loaded drivers...

...and I can say that, because anyone that knows 50% of me on these forums should know I'm a huge BlackBerry fan and will use their products until the end of time, but I will NEVER go out of my way, as some on here do, to essentially criticize and denounce legitimate issues others are having.

BlackBerry Link Remote File Access is horribly unreliable.

BlackBerry Blend seems to be following in its footsteps.

    STV0726,

Until you do a full reinstall you cannot complain.

Yes I can, because BlackBerry needs to start writing remote connection/device interaction software that doesn't require a considerable portion of their user base to have to go through this every time.
