My wife called and said when whe plugged in her BB DM launched as it should. After launching it installed the new Desktop manager and then it went to sync and was successful with the calendar, but failed or errorored out for contacts.
Usually when the backup fails it is due to a problem with the Browser Cache. Go into Desktop Manager and pick "Advanced," then scroll down to Browser Cache in the right-hand window and clear the database. You won't lose anything but it may fix your issue.
