BlackBerry has announced that it is collaborating with healthcare-focused data provider NantHealth in launching the NantOmics Cancer Genome Browser on the the BlackBerry Passport. The genome browser is the first such mobile solution available to medical care professionals, and allows them to access patients' genetic data securely.

It will be interesting to see what the media makes of this as this has pretty much zero real-world application at this point. While some tumors are sequenced to determine optimal treatment, the analysis happens at the lab and the results show up like any other pathology report through established channels used by doctors and hospitals. I'm not sure what the purpose of delivering these results directly to a mobile device is. It's not like you are going to establish a treatment regimen while the patient is sitting there. The specimen probably had to be sent days to weeks earlier to a lab in a different state.
