So ... the USP of these Android phones is that they get patched quickly, not that they are immune to the security issues in the first place?

Is that what BlackBerry means by 'the most secure Android in the world'?

Is that what BlackBerry means when it says in the product page for DTEK50 that users of its phone are 'immune' to the types of threats that other Android users face?

If you actually read the linked Knowledge Base article:

This vulnerability is mitigated for all customers by the requirement that an attacker must persuade a user to install a local app running malicious code on the smartphone. An attacker cannot force the user to install a malicious app and the user can only do so if they have turned off the*Verify Apps*and*SafetyNetfeatures. BlackBerry is not aware of any such malicious app exploiting this vulnerability.

Additionally, there are no remote vectors for this vulnerability.

Further, BlackBerry powered by Android smartphones use a unique security system to prevent persistent compromise. Attempts to use this vulnerability to gain persistent local elevated privileges on a BlackBerry Android smartphone are likely to fail with an error. Any compromise would not persist after a reboot.

Finally, side-loading apps on BlackBerry Android smartphones is not permitted by default; users should check the*DTEK by BlackBerry*application for verification of their security settings.

Absolutely. But not only BB10 is immune to vulnerabilities, it's also immune to users.

And even after all that, Google Play Services has been scanning for this particular vulnerability for quite some time now.

BlackBerry is never going to pick up big numbers of users of its Android devices, but at least the few thousand people who do buy one will have access to the Google.
