Wow. The end of BBID.
The end......
Posted via CB10
I haven't seen them say what will work on BB10 devices, did I miss it?
I'm betting that they won't implode on Jan. 4.
The BBID infrastructure is shutting down on that date - meaning no ability to backup/restore with Link/Sachesi/DBBT, no BlackBerry Protect, and no ability to wipe/autoload devices without disabling BlackBerry Protect and removing BBID on device prior to Jan 4th.
can't open the article until I reach a computer.....
what was the previous end of the world/bb10os date?
is this Jan 4th 2022 date an extension?
Backend services were previously exempted from the BB10 EOL date of Dec 31st 2019.
you called this a few weeks ago when I was asking about bb protect!
So what now? We should all disable then remove blackberry protect - step 1
what do we really need the blackberry ID for?
can we still use the device for multiple email accounts aka the HUB with out the bbID?
We can always side-load BB10 world apps (the few that are worthy) right?
and can still use the side loaded android apps.....for as long as google supports that older android run-time?
thank goodness for that onward device coming out prior to this shutdown.
I still see plenty of bb10 device out there in the wild (Toronto and Southern Ont) mainly among older folk, government employees, trades people, and those wanting to separate personal from business.
This news hasn't hit the circuit yet...ie:mobilesyrup etc
Prior to the end of the year, disable Protect, and then wipe (or autoload). Skip signing in to a BBID.
You should still be fine with email, sms, and sideloaded apps.
This is 2022 and not 2021.
John Chen is mindful of the new device.
"We have chosen to extend our service until then as an expression of thanks to our loyal partners and customers."
Thank you BlackBerry.
Jan 4th is many, many months prior any new BlackBerry-branded device.
Edit: this is pre-coffee math
Onward will delivery sometime in 2021.
Jan 4th in the article is in Jan of 2022.
My guess is by the time they shutdown those legacy services, we will know if Onward is going to succeed or not.
Device ? Yes, by then.
Success ? Unknown, the debates will be raging here...
Lol. Oops.
I think we will "know" pretty quickly if it's a sucess in the eyes of most here.... just by seeing the specs and the price.
Now if Onward only plans to sell 10K of them, and it's $1,000 year with a required $1,200 a year subscription. They as a company might be still be successful, even without most CrackBerry users here.
I'd like to think that their business plan forecasts something close to K2 sales. 10k and they might as well just be another Kickstarter.
I'd like to think we could go twenty years without having a hurricane impact the Panhandle of Florida....
LMAO
Ouch! Reading that made me sad.
I hope they won't ask us fan type folk to pay a subscription!
$1k + for the phone? Sure! Monthly or yearly re-occurring fees? No way!
HUB + android + security updates + BlackBerry build quality
BlackBerry was originally about paying $25-$50/month on top of basic phone services back in 2000’s before Android/iOS 2007-2008 introduction.
Yeah, 4mb blackberry data plans for $40 (cdn) a month - lol I think Bell was still pushing these even after android came out, 2008-2010ish
deadberry.tk, let's count it down together...
Well, it's still a long countdown - 1 1/3 years. I'll start counting down on Dec 1, 2021.:)
Yes it's sad it's coming to an end... but that's a long way still.
I was curious about... why Jan 4? In 2022, that's a Tuesday.
If it was this coming Jan. It would have made more sense. The 4th is the Monday after New Years (which is usually a Holiday and happens to fall on a Friday in 2021).
Maybe Mondays are filled with meetings all day.
Maybe I have nothing else to really contribute to this thread...
