Mobile technology over the past few years has really ramped up to being a key part in our daily routines. Most of us check our messages, play games, and even pay our bills without even thinking what's going on behind the scenes, nor taking the time to appreciate how far we've come from the days of pagers and PDAs with little or no network connectivity at all. When was the last time you went to the bank to pay for your credit card? Or to top that, when was the last time that you actually needed to visit the bank? It was only a few short years ago, that we needed to actually run errands rather than push a few buttons to get that new outfit delivered, or reserve that rental car for our vacation. Mobile technology has really evolved how we live and interact within the world around us, and near to the core of all that is the BlackBerry smartphone.

At the dawn of this mobile age the BlackBerry will forever stand as one of the main founding fathers, revolutionizing how businesses and consumers get the job done with mobile email, internet browsing, and agenda planning. We've come a long way from the first BlackBerry devices, but it's clear that smartphones and other mobile tech is not slowing down. In 2014, we are greeted by a plethora of choices. We can choose different platforms (Android, iOS, and BlackBerry 10 to name a few), and we can also choose different handsets based on our unique needs. However, in the wake of all these devices and continually evolving operating systems, we can always see a slight glimpse of the past. Sure the user interfaces have changed, and the hardware has becomes significantly more powerful, but we can always see those core values that once made BlackBerry great. Every single mobile platform today is based around connectivity and messaging. Without that, the smartphone is nothing more that a glorified PDA that supports an HD display.

Today there's no question that BlackBerry is having some trouble in the market. BlackBerry 10 is just not as big a hit with consumers and businesses as BlackBerry and it's fans would like. That's not to say that BlackBerry 10 is bad by any means. I've been using the platform since it's release and haven't looked back. But why then? Why, is the main question that a lot of analysts and journalists alike have been asking since it's release. We've seen speculation-based articles discussing the disappearance of the brand, the sell-off of the company, and in some cases a sell-off of it's assets entirely. Yet, through all this smoke, BlackBerry and it's new platform are still kicking. Personally I believe that this is due to the unprecedented dedication that BlackBerry devotes to the core of the smartphone. BlackBerry 10 has integrated easy to setup email, organized notifications, and their handsets feature physical keyboards for messaging warriors to name a few. All of these features are directly built around messaging and connectivity two core features that BlackBerry enthusiasts need and love more than anything else on their mobile device. So the next time you pickup a smartphone think about what really matters, do games and fingerprint scanners make a difference? Or is the messaging and connectivity that really keeps you moving?
