I was reading an article about tmobile paying Verizon for LTE 700 band. the z10 I have has 700 and 1700. Obviously 1700 would still work, but the z30 -5 doesn't have 700. This would probably affect my coverage in buildings(for example, at work I am getting 1 bar if I leave my phone about 4 feet off the ground in top of a stainless steel toolbox top).

A 700 band would probably penetrate the building and help with reception.

How exactly does that work if tmobile gets both bands in my area? Does the phone use 700 in place of 1700 if the signal is too weak? buying a z30 could potentially kill off network connection if I don't pick 1700 up.

Can anybody expand on how this works? I'm not much too familiar with how these bands work.

nope, the smart Paratek antenna on the Z30 will constantly tune & retune for the best coverage at that time, therefore you will always get the best possible reception (not essentially the best reception - the best possible) anytime, anywhere.
