    Hello all,

I got my Z30 two days ago hoping that it would help out my bad signal situation.

I have compared it to my Q10 at every instance I could and have found there to be no difference in signal strength in areas of low coverage.

The one upside I have found though is that it sometimes seems to be able to keep an LTE connection with one signal bar whereas the Q10 will stay a 4G with one bar. Still both are slow and unusable with one bar.

How is everyone else finding the new antenna to be working?

It's too bad because our company was going to invest in more than a few of these is the testing went better

Working fine here but then again, I don't have crap coverage. I have so much LTE around me I'm likely slowly getting cancer right now.

The purpose of the paratek antenna was for calls. It's prevents calls from being dropped in low reception areas. It really has no affect on data

Also to improve battery life in low reception areas. I know in a low reception area that would chew through my z10s battery in a 3 - 4 hrs just sitting there the z30 is hardly even phased. And much more usable in the low reception area. Also I'm having fewer dropped calls in some spots that would always fail. Doesn't do all of them but it makes a pretty big difference by cutting a lot of the dropped call areas out.

You say the Z30 is no longer under consideration because it does not magically move cell towers closer to you. I recommend you buy the device that does exhibit such capabilities. In the mean time let me explain what I understand about the Paratek technology. The wattage of cellular radio is regulated. Paratek can hold signal using less power when the signal is strong enough. It can't increase the wattage.

Hi I have Z30 and am in 3G+ signal area, no 4G till next year, also Z10 and windows phone 8 a Nokia 920,
The Z30 receives a full strength signal no dropped calls and high speed data, my other phones can not match it,
All running on same network and in same place, the others calls ok but data speeds half that of Z30, and call quality of Z30 is exceptional,
And battery life is amazing, Is this because Z30 uses better components or the Paratek antenna ? the Z30 is my main phone the others now hardly used.

Weird. I get reception in the basement of one of my university buildings (which is all concrete and bricks) with my Z30, while my Z10 had problems keeping up.

I can dismiss all the claims that paratek does not make a difference. I went back home where there is poor coverage with my 9780 and a friends S3. The coverage meter went to full bars when looking on the Internet and no dropped calls when I was on the phone for a hour and 20 mins. It seriously makes a difference.

The paratek antenna helps with calls in low coverage areas and helps to save battery with a sort of fine tuning of the signal, have my Z30 for a week and actually haven't dropped any call since then, in my office it is usual to drop calls because is in a bad signal area, haven't noticed that until I saw this thread, nice done Z30!!!

Paratek (acquired by BlackBerry) designs and manufactures adaptive RF antenna ic's and antenna film.

Go to http://www.paratek.com to find out details of this new technology.

BlackBerry owns the rights for this new h/w antenna solution!

Ah, thanks for this. I don't think it does anything extra for wifi as well.

When I am on home wifi and I reach the furthest point of my house. The z10 would show 2 bars. I thought for sure with this paratek z30, the signal would be stronger. No dice. Just 2 bars like the z10 had.

Amazing difference for me, it's the first phone where I can call from my house and the calls don't drop. My Z10 I had to walk upstairs or outside. I don't know about data I'm always on wifi at home.

9780 would only hold calls in specific areas in my basement. Can walk throughout with no loss of signal at all on my Z30. Maybe the new LTE tower that went up not far from me has 3G capabilities in it too. Either way I'm not on LTE yet and the Z30 holds calls better than any other phone I've had. I'll try to test it out more the next time I have someone over on the same network as me. Preferably with the N4/5 or S3/4.

If i didn't cut my old sim for the 9780 to size to fit the Z30 I'd be testing it out again too.

I'm pretty sure one of the big tech sites did a signal strength comparison with the Galaxy Note 3 and found that the Z30 consistently had better reception. Can't remember which site it was off-hand however.

Edit: Aha, it was PCMag. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2426577,00.asp

I've found so far today (my first full day with the Z30) that the areas with known signal issues have been able to hold a signal much better than my Z10 could and it's not draining the battery. The ultimate test will be when I visit my parents next. Their house is known for bad reception and caused my Z10 to drain the battery from full to 0 in about 4 hours with me barely using the phone.

What? You know, cause they use two different antennas, right? Right?

    *facepalm

Better reception is better reception. On topic, sorry OP that it is not making a difference to you. However, all reviews so far have shown tangible benefits to the Paratek antenna in low signal coverage areas.

I'm with rogers, coming from iphone 4s to z30.. can't do exact comparison since one is 3g and other 4g, but at work my iPhone would always drop to 1-2 bars, but z30 is always 4-5 bars but usually 5. I have yet to have to worry about signal strength
