First off is it true this phone only has 295PPI? Anyone know why they would not put in anything higher. >330 PPI is table stakes these days.

Honestly that argument isn't even valid. You can absolutely tell the difference between an iphone 4 and a galaxy s4. Not even close.

You wouldn't be able to see the difference between 720 and 1080 except your battery would die quicker. I hear Samsung is buying Honda and all the new cars will have eight wheels.

Yes it's true. I guess, there is no rational reason to do so. Your eyes cannot resolve any higher resolution on that little screen. As far as I know another point is, that all the apps are designed for this Z10/Q10 resolution (I don't know the exact numbers now)...

    Q10 and Q5 are 720x720
    Z10 is 1280x768
    Z30 is 1280x720

So this means that we now have three screen resolutions that have to be developed for.

Blackberry told developers to pad their Z10 apps so they are 720 in width to minimize the work needed to apply to all platforms. So if you followed the instructions, it is only really two platforms.

How many screen resolutions for an Android app?

Somehow, I think we'll be ok with 295 ppi. You're not gonna walk into the store thinking, wow, that screen looks like ****. You'll get over it

That's the difference between an lcd screen and an super AMLED screen you are seeing NOT dpi.
One only sees a difference if one uses an extra large foint.
You can't tell the difference with normal vision.

I don't mind 300 dpi -ish specs. That's print. Print looks great.

That said, Blackberry looks crazy when the charge premium prices for budget hardware.

Its just disappinting, it always seems like there is a trade off. Reality is BB needs to make every component top-notch. It felt like they managed to get everything right this time with the exception of a >300PPi screen (ok a removable battery would have been good but not a deal breaker). As for the human eye noticing the difference - I may not be able to optically quantify the difference other than screen elements just seem crisper (fonts, graphics, etc...) with devices that have >300 PPI.

You can definitely tell the difference. All of the people say that you can't are wrong. An 8K tv should look no different than a 1080P tv at certain distances, yeah right. I've seen 8K, it's like looking through a window.

What do you want to see in the small screen such as 5" Display? When you are watching any movie on it, you will not recognize it is 295 or higher.

LOL i notice you didn't bother with the iphone 5 that has a way better screen than the iphone 4. Compare the inpone 5 with the gs4 not 3 year old tech.

PS the iphone screen doesn't even reach full HD (720) yet the human eye cant tell the difference.

1998 ringgitts is not a crazy price.

Just because UK retailers are charging 6000 pounds it's NOT BlackBerry, which is apparent from the aforementioned price

I think you mean 4k tvs, unless you are overly exaggerating. Really the only way you can tell the difference between 1080p and 4k tvs is by having a screen size of 50 inches or more. That is when the difference shows up.

Yes, most people can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p on a 5", but 1080p is still not enough, so stop moaning about it.

People who use the phone as a communication device won't care.

That's kind of a cheap argument. BlackBerry themselves advised developers that the Z10's 768 rez was a one-off, and that future devices would be 720. The difference is only an issue if a developer fixes UI elements at specific points instead of using layouts, which is a very poor programming practice.

I thought aspect ratio had more to do with it than resolution?

Couldn't agree more. Especially on a 5in screen.

If my 55" LED TV had less than 1080P, then I'd notice... but on a 5in screen? No.

I also heard that Ford is putting a 1000hp engine into their new Fusion, and it can go 450mph....So which road in North America can be driven on that fast (legally)?

As a developer let me tell you that shouldn't be an issue if you design your app to scale to the device. Don't forget a lot of BB10 apps also look just fine on the PlayBook because the dev handled it properly. BBRY just sent out an advisory to devs to check that they aren't using fixed sized bitmaps in the splash screens and gave them a small window of time to fix it. As I said above, screen assets shout be designed to be scalable and also their positioning should be dynamic and not static.
