720p on my nexus 7 looks fine, you can slightly see pixels but nothing that ruins the experience. It's a 7inch screen however, so 720p on a 5 inch screen should give much better quality. 1080p is meant for screens over 5inches. I wish people would just shut up about this, if 720p is such a problem then don't buy the damn device.

In that case iPhone 5s buyers are also insane? People love certain OSs... isnt always a specs game.

You are forgetting image, good-will, the ecosystem, the retail network and the customer service.

Apple has all of these things.
And with the new 64bit CPU, they again have a first to market advantage on the competition.

BlackBerry's image is pretty much just devastating, the consumer good-will is long gone, they have no ecosystem compared to the competition, they have no retail network and the customer service is abysmal.

    Since you like microeconomics:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_theory

All of the things I listed above, have to be factored in.

What you ask BlackBerry to do is just ridiculous and impossible they would of gone bankrupt trying to get perfect specs and a perfect OS... because that would never release...

I'm giving them a free pass on the 5s because they once again upped the ante, but the 5C is a bad joke.

The problem is that everyone will still buy it, that's why it's pretty much useless pointing out how ridiculously priced that phone is, just looking at the production costs.

But if you want to hear it, yes I think that buying the 5C, if it's not for fashion purposes and you have a little bit too much money, is a moronic decision.

All BB needs to do is leak a white paper report about how they tested various screen resolutions and ppi vs battery consumption and user experience. White papers with actual scientific data needs to be seen so that these apples to oranges comparisons can be thrown out or taken in proper context. I love it when science beats marketing fluff and personal anecdotes.

Screen resolution matters on a 5in device not because people can tell the difference between 295ppi and 450ppi.. But it gives more monetary value to the product.. Since we know the z30 will be priced high.. Were is the value proposition against a s4, htc one, or 5s?

Well... I'm glad having the highest screen resolution is not what they are trying to sell. Unfortunately people still gravitate to the biggest cars with the flashiest 'chrome' trim (often skimping on the 4WD in exchange)... even if they drive like a boat.

Funny BB is touting the Z30 to have a "stunning" display. That isn't the word I think of when I hear a screen has pixel density of 295 ppi and a resolution of 720p, I think of sub-par, mediocre, antiquated, obsolete......
Nice to see you've brought your anti BlackBerry bias to this forum as well hilman! Busted!

Antiquated obsolete, this is the same argument used by audiophiles to do pen-is comparisons about high end audiophile equipment. A vast majority of people don't GAF, does it look clear? Are pictures nice? Can I watch movies in clear video? They don't give a fiddlers rats rump, about specs.

" oh yeah my car does the quarter in 11.45!..."

    A) They were given the choice to load the update or to wait for reviews having older iPhones as their focus.

    B) At least Apple consistently supports their devices for a number of years.
BlackBerry has yet to prove that, but looking at their past behaviour with BBOS updates, this is doubtful.

    C) Who is everyone?

    D) Quote the post you are replying to.

Blackberry told developers to pad their Z10 apps so they are 720 in width to minimize the work needed to apply to all platforms. So if you followed the instructions, it is only really two platforms.

How many screen resolutions for an Android app?
If your porting to BlackBerry, 1.

Android is the most reliable platform to use to build for BB10. It's the only platform they keep backwards compatible from OS update to OS update and the only one that truly accepts all resolutions.

. Keep in mind we were lied to about resolutions twice so far when we were told ALL devices would be 1024x600, then there would be no x768. If your going to quote BlackBerry development references to developers - remember that it goes two ways.

How many apps, by your argument, are only using 1280x720 on z10? Yeah, good ADKAR by BBRY

So the new apps will be 720 in width and no 768 again? And what is this means to z10 user?

    Agreed.

What's the point in 8k when 4k hasn't even taken off. Nor do I see it happening. I have nearly 700 blu-ray's and now if I want true 4k viewing I have to buy my BD's all over again in 4k format?! Not gonna happen. The average consumer has just caught on to blu-ray. If there's ever going to be a niche market, ultra HD TV'S are it.

It seems that people forgot to mention that the Z30 sports a Quad-Core Adreno 320 GPU (Graphics) as opposed to the Z10's Single-Core Adreno 225 GPU. It makes a lot of difference. The 225 is already smooth in itself.

Since we are fighting over a screen resolution spec war, perhaps everyone can specify their own university GPA so I know who I should be listening to

After all, the higher the number, the smarter the person, so I would prefer to only listen to the opinions of the smartest of the smart

    Thanks in advance

If by "zooming in" you mean bringing the screen closer to your eyeball so that the phone is touching your nose than yes. Huge difference.

I have a borrowed Z30 in my hands right now and I can tell you the difference is smaller than you may think at 10-12 inch viewing distance when comparing side by side next to the Z10. I found myself putting the phone farther away since it's bigger. It's a non pentile display which is very good news. Using the Z10 screen again I can appreciate its improved sharpness but I honestly think those who don't compare will be fine with the Z30 display.

I had the choice with my tv I could get a 1080p lcd tv with a 60hz refresh rate or a 720p 600hz refresh rate plasma for 100$ less I got the plasma. I'm sitting 10ft away from my 42in tv and when I play Halo or Crysis it's drop dead gorgeous with no blur same thing with phones you don't need 1080p you just need a good 720p screen

Near the bottom of this article I have a link to a 16MP picture of Samsung Galaxy S4 and SIII.

    http://thedroidguy.com/2013/07/smart...lly-necessary/

One is a 4.8 inch 720p, and the other a 5 inch 1080p, unit. Both are Super AMOLED.

I cannot tell the difference. Others can. Check it out for yourself
