    Hi,

Is the boxed charger for the Z30 significantly different to that of the Z10?

I ask as I have my old Z10 charger at work, and the Z30 one at home, and today my Z30 battery will only charge to 97% on the old Z10 charger, no matter how long it's plugged in (5hrs thus far). Also, the battery has got pretty warm in the process. I've only had Z30 a few days, so this is only the 4th charge, and previous ones have all taken it too 100%, using both the chargers in the process.

I know the Z30 charger looks slightly different, but is it actually different and could this be why it's not fully charging?

The Z30 charger has more amps I believe. HOWEVER the voltage should be the same so the Z10 charge shouldn't actually damage your Z30, it will just charge it slower.

Thanks. It did charge it slower, but 97% for 5 hrs is reeeeeaaally slow!

The PlayBook charger works well for the Z30.....

BlackBerry Premium Micro-USB 1.8A Charger | BlackBerry Chargers & Cables

It puts out more amps than the Z30's charger, and the Z10s charger combined!

I'll just try the actual charger that came with it when I'm home to see if that's the issue. I figured the Z10 charger might slow the charging process down, but as to why it's getting stuck on 97%, I know not.

It's a known bug - you gotta unplug the charger or something while it's still charging. Check the forums.

Well, maybe, but I did actually have the Z30 charger in my bag, so have tried that and straight to100% - so looks like it was the fact that it's not the boxed charger that was the issue - at least in my case.

I'm telling you, it's the amps, the Z10 charger is 750 mAmps, and the Z30 charger is 850 mAmps, the playbook (or as BBRY calls it now, the Premium) charger is 1.8 Amps. 1 Amp = 1000 mAmps.

Easy tiger. I never said it wasn't the 'amps'. I'm sure you're right.

Not to hijack, but one time my PB charger totally freaked out my Z10. Brought it up to a full charge, unplugged, and less than an hour later the Z shut down with a dead battery. Had to plug it into the stock Z10 charger for a full charge cycle to bring it back to 100%. Deeply weird stuff that I had never seen before (it wasn't the first time I'd used the PB charger on the phone, but it isn't something I did regularly, either.)

Needless to say, I don't use the PB charger on the phone any more.

I guess to finally meander around to a point, I try to always use the charger that came with the device, or at least one with the same amp and volt rating.

I just bought a Z30 one week ago. Wonderful device! Best out there for sure! About the battery, I know sometimes we need it to charge fast, but if you have all night to do it, I think a less powerful charger is better. I think what damages batteries the most is heat and this is probably find in high amps chargers. I could be wrong, but it makes sense.
