I think the legacy Blackberries ruined it for many if us. Not so much the 9900/9930 which had just average battery life, but the 9700.....whew, I remember some days when the guage didn't budge off full. Amazing!

Don't feel bad OP, I've never heard anything about allowing an OS to settle either. But a lot of these guys speak from experience. Just give it a few days and see what happens. Some of these dudes get bent out of shape way to easily as if thier Blackberry is thier life or wife (for some its as close as it gets), I hope the battery issue gets sorted, enjoy your holiday.
PIM services require many, many hours to index contacts, e-mails, attachments, etc. If you've just added accounts to the phone on your first day, that's one answer to the poor battery life.
For the use you are speaking of, I have attained 13-16 hrs of use of fairly constant use (BBM + Web primarily). If you don't see a distinct difference after a few days, there could be something else amiss...

Seth, I don't know why some forum members feel the need to attack or belittle a another member for his or her post. There are so many ways to make your point without the sarcasm and venum.
Thank goodness most people here are a joy. It's a very passionate forum and a lot of great information is shared.
I have 3 emails (synced with contacts and calendars) , fb (close to 2k contacts) and it took around a day and a half for it to completely sync into my phone.
PIM services tend to take up chunk of my battery (30% in be average of 48 hours use).
I would considered a medium-heavy user and my battery can last from. 12-22 hours so so far. first couple days only lasted me 8-15 hours.

My phone has been running with average use for about 11 hours. I have 48% left.

This is what ppl with battery issues need to start reviewing, it will tell you what has consumed your battery since your last charge!

Whether or not you would like to believe it, a new os install or a phone out of the box will need time to settle in. Not the hardware, not the battery, the software, the operating system. New files need to be created and cached, data needs to be sorted out, indexing system files and files on your media card for example. Even when you perform a fresh install of windows it will need some time to run at its best. Not everything is so cut and dry, especially with software being so complex now a days. OP you literally need to wait just one more day and the phone should be fine. If the battery life if still crap after a week then there may be a hardware problem that needs looking into.
Posted via CB10 on my awesome new Z30!
Unplugged mine at around 6 this morning, it is now 7:11 PM and I'm sitting at 74% after light to moderate use today. I think that's amazing battery life

Lol "4G" is HSPA+. Nothing special to it at all. And in the case of poor signal, my Z30 is extremely efficient at not draining my battery when finding signal.
HI SethDove. I've had most of the BlackBerry10 and QNX devices. The Z30 is by far my favourite. I was hyper-nervous when the device came out without a removable battery but I've been really pleasantly surprised. I charge overnight and do a lot of Twitter, Browsing, the odd video, WiFi, - basically use almost every feature of the phone.
The only times I have worried about battery are when I am using WAZE or something similar in the car. having the GPS, Bluetooth and LTE networks all chewing away tends to be a little aggressive.
Depending upon which OS you're running you should be able to go into Settings, then App Manager, then Device Monitor to see which applications are doing what to your battery (and CPU and Memory). I am curious to see what else might be chewing your phone.
Also - like the other posts above - Please come back tomorrow at this time and tell us how things are. The initial setup on a BlackBerry IS different depending upon which Accounts you've set up. The Contacts App is trying to marry FaceBook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and whatnot all together for you, for example. This is CPU intensive during the initial setup but dwindles to nothing after that. If you've got a lot of music or other media files on the SD card the initial setup takes a bit to index everything.
It gets LOADS better.
Hope you figure it out, as mine did die quickly the first day but after a few it did get better. I work in isolated areas and I still get 14- 18 hrs of battery life daily now. Granted I have only 1 email sync, FB, Twitter, and I do the occasional web surfing, and a lot of bbming during those hours. Some days it's down to 20% when I plug in and others it has over 30.
I did do a security wipe and then reinstalled all apps after the first week or so as well to see if that helped but it honestly does seem to be the same.

I got mine last night and put it on charge when I went to bed. Took it off fully charged at 8am today. It is now 8:30pm and I still have 45% left. Had a couple of calls, streamed about an hour of video through micro hdmi to tv, used bbm, the Web quite a bit plus other minor stuff. I did have my brightness set to the minimum which is plenty bright for me. Not sure about all that data sync stuff mentioned. You would think once it's there it's there.... what the heck would sync in the background for two days?

I meant LTE 4G vs HSPA+ 4G.
Hello,
I didn't see great battery life until 5-7 days after I picked it up. I've had it for a couple weeks now and I easily get a day and half sometimes almost two. Granted I'm not watching movies but I'm writing emails, bbming, surfing, and using other random apps all day long.
Hopefully it gets better for you in the coming days!
you need to cycle the battery for at least 4-5 times charge and discharge dude
No you don't.
You do, however, need to let the OS settle. This has nothing to do with battery priming, it's just how the OS has been designed.
OP is clearly not an *****, is capable of writing coherently, so I have to assume he can read too. If he comes back and continues talking about battery priming and old wives tales, we need to lock this thread up and send him on his way.

Stop.
Listen to what people are saying. The OS will be doing a lot of background crap for the first 1 day or so. I have noticed the same thing on every Z10 and Q10 that's been on my hands. The first Verizon OS the Z10 came with made the battery last a few crappy hours. It took over 2 days to go to normal.
Wait no no no, shut up everyone.
OP you should throw away the phone, and throw it far far away, to me. For free. Save you the inconvenience.
Why do you even need this phone? You hardly use it to communicate.
Wow.
I'm not entirely sure what you hope to accomplish by lashing out at people that are trying to answer your questions and help you but it has been well documented in the forums that after an update the phone needs some time to index all of the new information so that you can access it quickly and efficiently. It has been suggested that you give it 48 hours so what do you really have to lose by waiting for 2 days to see if the battery life improves?
If you are unhappy with your purchase still and can't return it then you will likely get some offers if you post it up in the market place for sale or trade.
My it's getting Combative in here! If I may add some objectivity.
I think it is safe to assume that the majority of posters in response to this have used a BB10 device and experienced the battery for the first couple of days. I certainly have on both a Q10 and a Z10. There is a lot of indexing that happens, especially if you are running multiple mail accounts or in my case a very large Work email account. Indexing takes both time and battery power!
However the levels of drain you are experiencing are not consistent with this indexing, it appears to be above that. This is something I also experienced with my Q10 for the first couple of weeks. It then got erratic whereby it would have great battery for days and then all of a sudden massive drain and discharge. The Issue in my case was to do with android ports which were sideloaded. The app would sit saying there was an issue and you could choose force close or wait. I strongly suggest if you ever see this choosing force close as waiting leaves something running that drains battery.
All this happened before 10.2 so there was no app manager I could turn to. Please check that and ensure any apps you may have downloaded or sideloaded are running correctly. If necessary try opening up as many Android based apps as possible as this can help crash the android environment so it can be restarted. Bizarrely when I was suffering even a reboot was not sufficient to stop the drain.
I hope this is useful.

"Wow", what? Do you understand what we're saying yet? Where is your problem now?

The battery cycling isn't to condition the battery.
It is to calibrate the battery meter.
So yes, it does help to fully discharge and recharge a new battery.
I say reset to factory and use it for 24-48 hours with just the basics. See how it does before installing your normal apps...
