I would assume you could tell your email accounts not to push or poll. You could set every app not to update when not opened. But many apps are headless which means if you install them, they are going to run. So I guess if you don't want these things going on, you don't want a smartphone?
What background data are you most concerned about?
I would swear, well, almost, that there was a place to restrict or warn about data usage but I canNOT find it.
Settings -> Data management
Then click the blue text which takes you to 'data usage settings'. There you can add limits.

That's the PROBLEM - I don't have that SETTING????? Hmmm.
(I will have to check the source of my Blitz file and see if a module was omitted!!!!)
Tuxedo:
Can you tell us what OS version you have running when you have that Data Management Setting available?
Thanks in advance.

That's odd - that's the one I have, too.
How did you get that version? Leak or ????
Got to figure out which module might be missing on OUR systems.
I've created a thread in the Leak subforum. Someone else said some of their friends were also missing that option. And it appears, that like me and others, they, too, are Verizon customers?
My apologies F2, I actually did a forum search and replied before looking at the parent forum.
I have a Passport from shopblackberry.com and updated OTA. I am on TMO. I am not using a Z30.
Sorry about that.

You can control apps running in background, their location settings etc as you wish. You can also set your apps settings running in background when minimised to control data usage.
You will find it all under - settings / Security and privacy / application permissions

Not a problem. It is still odd that the setting is missing on some units and it may be that it is Verizon units from some evidence - not exhaustive evidence.
While I fired up my inactive Z10 and did find the Data Management setting on it - with an older 10.3.1.xxx OS. It is a Verizon Z10. So it did exist and was not solely a product of my imagination.
You know what, i really like and respect your posts, but your last comment about why do you want a smartphone here seems kind of snarky so let me reply to that.
I have always loved how my BlackBerries do not burn up data when i am not using it, if that is now changing with this new update, well THIS IS the place to discuss whats going on and make sure we understand. I pay very high rates for my data plan and i do use alot of monthly data. And yes i shouldnt have that if i cant afford it i know. This is partly why i am hooked on BlackBerry.
I personally as posted before, took on this update by accident. I keep data turned off by default and just turn it on while i am accessing it. I did notice on the Q5 after this update that the data button APPEARED to be repeatedly turning itself back on after i turned it off, but after more than five times pushing OFF again it stopped. (headless android apps that bypass the permissions process?)
If this update means a huge increase in data consumption, like happened with the I-Phone, lets have our eyes open and decide what we need to do.
And please respectfully remember there may be low income people posting on this board who are concerned about what new background data-sucking is going on.
I also am talking about background functions that i had no part nor say in installing on my phone. I dont know yet whether this is going to be a problem but it is a valid concern for discussing.
