I have managed to hear nothing about this since the Z30s launch. Does it have it? Does it work? What is happening with it?

Only the STA100-3 (Verizon model) will have it built in.

What??? Really??? How do Verizon's sales numbers justify that?

I wonder if it is a back panel thing, like if you get another model, you might be able to buy a different battery door to add wireless charging like on some of the lumia models this is just a theory, anyone know if there are unused contacts under the z30 battery door?

I agree. I can't imagine BlackBerry would develop a whole new phone just for Verizon

Anybody know much about this technology
    .
I see where the Z30 will be certified for the new qi medium power level but all of the charging pads I can find are low power?

Well, they have to do it anyways, because of the unique radio bands that have to go into the Verizon BBs, so they might as well stick something else that's unique in there.

Verizon BBs (STA100-3, in this case) are made for Verizon only. If you look at the STA100-5 it's being used by all of Canada, and could be used by T-Mobile USA as well. The STL100-4 (Z10) was specially made for Verizon, the STL100-2 was made for Europe, Australia, etc.

That's not to say Verizon BB10 phones don't work on other networks. For example, this Z30 can work on Canadian LTE and HSPA+ networks.

Didn't know about the different radio bands. Do they have a completely different radio or just a different radio software?

Unless Verizon gave them some incentive I can't see why BlackBerry would give them a better model.

But then again... there's a lot of things BlackBerry does that I don't understand...

That's the part that fails my credibility detector. BBRY doesn't add things to a small sub set of their models just because they might as well.

Verizon is CDMA radio, others are GSM. So Verizon version has to have CDMA radio in addition to GSM (for world travel).

Its not uncommon for verizon to ask for exclusives. They already have exclusive wireless charging from HTC, Nokia, and LG. Also remember the galaxy nexus for verizon was the only 4G nexus until just yesterday. Why would blackberry do it? Because they need the largest carrier in the US. Blackberry isn't in the position of power here.

I'm not sure on the hardware level differences, but I believe the radios are different (compared to GSM models,) because Verizon has a legacy CDMA network. Verizon phones must have GSM radios too though, because they can be operated on GSM networks.

Verizon has some pretty specific bands they use: CDMA bands 0 and 1, and LTE band 13. Globally, you won't find a lot of carriers using these bands separately, much less in a combination together.

That's the part that fails my credibility detector. BBRY doesn't add things to a small sub set of their models just because they might as well.
From a financial standpoint, it does kinda make sense. You're likely to manufacture a smaller number of devices for a single carrier release (-3) than you are for all-carrier nation/continent-wide releases (-2, -5, -6.) So you incur lesser costs fitting the smaller number of devices with additional technology.

Thats frustrating to say the least. Verizon isn't even an option here north of the border so it makes zero sense as an exclusive outside of the US. Its the one feature I still miss on my Z10 coming from Palm devices, well that and cloud backups. Hopefully its just a back cover thing and will be rectified shortly. Was just really surprised to not see it come up in any review.
