Unless you get your hands on an unreleased test device, then all that'll work is the Q10.

I have a friend that has a Z10 on Sprint. The Z was originally from Verizon.

Say what? I won't call it impossible because I don't know CDMA that well, but this cannot be done easily, if at all. Not even old BBs could be made to do this. Are you sure he was on Sprint and not AT&T/TMO/a GSM MVNO?

It will work theoretically. It won't give you full 4G LTE or for that matter 4G. You may be stuck with as low as 3.5G due to the different bandwidths either way as long as you get the verizon model and one of those rare sprint sim cards it should work as correct me if I'm wrong but don't sprint and Verizon share the 700 spectrum?

Are you saying his GSM side works on Sprint? Sprint will not validate "alien" phones on their CDMA side (which means Verizon, of course). Not sure about the GSM side. While Verizon phones come unlocked (GSM) I think Sprint does not. Although I don't think Sprint will allow a GSM connect either. Just curious.

Sprint does not have any GSM networks, and their LTE bands so far are unique to them. Verizon and Sprint use the same CDMA bands, but the phones are flashed differently. AFAIK, CDMA BB10 phones have not been flashed to other CDMA carriers.

I doubt that the GSM side will work on Sprint's CDMA network. I agree that it is hard to get a VZW phone on Sprint and it is easier to get a Sprint phone on VZW. I think it can be done with the right Sprint contacts, however, so I'm not that suprised about a VZW Z10 on Sprint.

So, their dual-mode phones are just to give their regular CDMA customers a GSM option when abroad? And, is their GSM mode locked and, therefore, only available to specific GSM carriers over seas?

It's a bit unclear at this point. On one hand, GSM bands are put in CDMA phones solely to bring greater compatibility, but on the other hand, Sprint's dual mode phones cannot be unlocked (until new, unlockable phones hit the market in 2015. See this CB article.) Now whether or not you believe what Sprint says ("Sprint has no technological process available to [unlock GSM side of phones]") is up to you, but it certainly raises the question why a manufacturer would put GSM bands in Sprint phones if they really cannot be unlocked.

Their reps tell people that phones are unlocked, but they're not--as people find out when they put foreign SIMs in. But Sprint also has international roaming plans. How convenient.

Oddly enough, given all the talk of what might happen when the FCC's papers for the STA100-1 get released later this month, Sprint hasn't done much about the STA100-4 since March.
