Well, as Android will run on a device with only 1GB of RAM... I guess we should all get our PlayBooks dusted off and ready for the Android update for them..... BlackBerry is finally going to keep their promise and update the PlayBook!

I hope not! I'd rather just get the maintenance updates for BB10. Not really interested in running Android on my Z30.

Will the Blackberry Z30 will get the android os update like BlackBerry PRIV os powered by android???? Sry for the bad english.
The Z30 and other BlackBerry 10 devices run on the BB10 OS, which has an Android runtime shell within a BB10 sandbox.
If an exploit or update is required for that runtime, yes BlackBerry will most likely issue an update.
However, as it is a forked runtime and not a full Android OS, it wouldn't be updated like BlackBerry Priv and other Android device manufacturers in updating or patching an Android OS.

An newer version of the android runtime would be nice. There are still apps that crash on startup ee TV is one of the apps.

The Z30 does not have the hardware or memory capacity to run Android. Android is a very resource heavy OS.

    Rock'n the awesome Z30 STA100-5 on 10.3.2.2474
As the HP Touchpad can run Lollipop, it follows that the much more capable Z30 hardware can run Android just fine. 2GB is more than enough RAM, and the Z30 already runs Android apps in a layer running on top of BB10. If anything it would be a performance improvement for people who mostly use Android apps on their phones. It would also be a gigantic "F-You" to anyone who invested their money buying apps in BBW this whole time, and to the few devs left who actually care to write native apps.

Of course, while loading Android on an HP Touchpad without dual booting kills the owner's access to WebOS apps, at this stage, we see that the tradeoff is worth it as Touchpad owners have devices that run modern apps and still have some life left in them yet, despite the product being killed off and then left to twist in the wind for years with no support. That's not going to happen for BB10 devices, just like it didn't happen for PlayBook. We bought BB10 devices, and we can make the most of them, and try not to chase off the few people that still care to write useful stuff for our phones.

Not going to happen because it would cost money to make it happen. It would be nice for the users, but BlackBerry ran out of money to spend on "nice" after giving away hundreds of dollars in free apps on many occasions and who knows how much in free hardware failed to get them results and attract devs.

I hope if sales of Priv goes well, probably, Blackberry people may think of releasing custom rom for Z30 in 2-3 months. I am too looking for this option, although, eying for Priv right now.

The CPU in all BB10 products is designed for QNX. It will not work with Android core.
Same as the CPU in Priv is designed for Android core and will not be able to run QNX.

This is one of the reasons BlackBerry has made the Priv. Qualcomm has decided to no longer design custom CPU for QNX as the demand isn't high enough.

If the images of Passport with Android are true... there is only 2 possibilities.
    1. Is BB10 with a marshmallow launcher apk (can do that on my Z30
    2. BlackBerry is testing the Passport with the same CPU as the Priv. This means, it won't come to existing Passports.

    Sorry about your luck.

    Bull****. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Qualcom...r.97646.0.html

BB10 devices DO NOT have some special snowflake of a processor. As for the MSM8960T being able to run Android...

The Sony Experia SP uses the exact same CPU as the Z30. As the device shipped with Android, it follows that the CPU can run Android. As the Experia SP has half the RAM of a Z30 yet has CM12 and even a CM13 ROM available which allows it to run Android 6.0, it follows that the Z30 would be capable of running Android if BlackBerry wanted it to, and it would at likely run it better than the Experia SP due to having double the amount of RAM.

Your argument's logic is completely invalid.

I would assume that, currently, the majority of Z30 users on this forum would not be particularly interested in running Android on their device. The reason for being a Z30 owner in the first place has to be the productivity advantage of BB10 over Android - why give this away?
If the Priv and subsequent BlackBerry Android devices are successful, then maybe BlackBerry will refine their Android version to include the best bits of BB10. By that time, we will probably be at or near End Of Life for the Z30 (and all other BB10 devices). I don't think any BB10 devices will be seeing official Android versions.

I have to agree. And while as an Ambassador, I should be supportive in threads, HOPE is fine but wild dreams - well not so much. But I very incredibly strongly suggest that it will not/never ever happen. BB will not expend its limited resources on developing a new OS for a two year old phone. We are lucky that they are still working on newer versions of bb10. So whether or not the hardware might permit it - NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

You would appear to be correct. I got my information from someone internal. Guess I should have done some research first. I still doubt they would release Android for any of the previous devices.
    I withdraw my original post.

If it is true, it might be a painfull of process, and would ended bricked if fail happen.

In my opinion, BlackBerry just need to inject google play store to every os10 devices, it would need just major update, no need of flashing.

It'd be cool if they took a Z30, updated the specs a little and ran dual OS (android /BB10). Kind of throw in an extra feature kind of like BES12 in a way.

Stay away from the 10.3.3.xxx one(s) as those are Developer OS' that are not fully functional and once you install a OS higher than 10.3.2.500, you can't downgrade.
