Since I bought it, my Z30 battery cannot last longer than 7-8 hours and the device is hot most of the time.

    I tried 10.2.1.575, 10.2.0.1797 and now on 10.2.0.1767.

I'm on what ever came with the device from Telus. I get easily 14 hours of heavy use.

Check what's application's draining battery first. It's not suppose to be hot. That means there's something using procrssing/ radio power heavily and all the time

First few days mine was pretty hot. It cools down now, and battery lasts longer. It got to be new OS and initial sync of emails etc.

The battery takes time to settle in once you update. Check active processes to find out what your phone is doing and what process is draining the battery.

Check App Manager in Settings. Watch the CPU... it is very busy after adding accounts, indexing emails, and perhaps files for Search if you also have an SD Card.

Give it a couple days, until the CPU idles... no longer spiking to high %'s.

Make sure you do the small things as well like turning off wifi when you don't need it, brightness check, turning off bluetooth, etc.

Syncing email accounts, downloading all my apps produced heat but it cooled down quickly and did not repeat. So it seem to be just the initial heavy lifting.

It has been said by some of the known leakers the whole systems is very busy indexing in the background after an update. So if you frequently install leaks and not giving each installs two or three days to finally settle down, I wouldn't be surprised all of them give you poor performance. I am not a person who installs any leaks at all, however I'd give an update at least five days of time before I do some actual comparisons in terms of battery life.

Nevertheless, you should also keep an eye if there are any apps or tasks which kind of kill your battery.

WAIT for 3 days after you set up the device before making any judgement on battery life. Your phone is doing a lot of work during the first few days as it syncs your data, indexes the file system etc.

Mine drained quickly during the first 48 hours and then I started to enjoy AMAZING battery life.

Yes, what he said, OS needs a few days to settle and crunch in the background.
