Try it, press the mike button and try. It's so slow and always wrong. You have to speak like a three year old and even then!

    Seems buggy to me

Phew, I thought it was just me. I can't even call my family at home without purposely mispronouncing my name to match what the Z30 thinks it is. Never such problems with my 9800.

It's a waste of memory. I wish I can remove it.

I tried whispering to my device lovingly....

I tried yelling at it like a mad man.....

    Neither works.

    I just figured it out.

Go to the languages menu in the settings field.

Now this part is important. Pay attention to this next step.

Pick the input language of your native tongue.

    Save it.

Now when you try voice dictation, speak in english loudly BUT with a thick accent of your native tongue! It works!!

So for Asians like me I yell loudly English words with a thick chinese accent and the BlackBerry gets it every time!

"Wot tyme kow la?" is perfectly translated to "what time is it now?"

The programmer for this function must be asian!

I have a healthy disdain for voice recognition; I can trip up this, MS Sync and even Siri (at times).

The only thing that's worse than that for me is handwriting recognition. Mostly because I have terrible handwriting.

I don't know if it's an accent thing or what but I've found the dictation to be very accurate, as did the VZW rep that was demoing it for me. The only issue we had was when we first started, we were getting some errors and then realized the demo Bose BT music box next to the phone was playing too loud and confusing the program. After turning it down all was good. I even posted on it and it's accuracy was one of the factors swaying me toward the Z30.

As far as I can tell, it's a BB10 issue. It stinks on my Z30 and it stinks on my wife's Z10. Maybe I should try the accent bit

I find that it works very well. Even the auto punctuation feature gets it right most of the time. I guess it's just a matter of knowing how to talk to it.

Try switching to voice dialing. Someone pointed this out to me in the forums awhile ago. Changes it back to the OS7 voice control.
Why is voice dictation on the z30 so inaccurate and cumbersome?.-img_00000084.png

So voice dialing only will improve the recognition performance and accuracy?

Its driving me crazy. Have fun at works fine.
The above is perfect example. Second sentence was,
"half the time it works half the time it doesn't. "
My S3 does it perfect 90% of the time.
Pretty much the same thing with editing what's entered, trying to drag the stupid circle to where I need it results in the characters being blocked by my fingers. The latest update Insists on going into selection mode and doesn't let u type. The screen needs an escape key

I have to chime in here to say the voice command feature on both the Z10 & Z30 works amazingly well. We have both phones in the family here and it is remarkable how accurate it is. I especially love the feature where, from a blank screen, I can press & hold the play button till it beeps, then say "text Mary I'm going to be 5 minutes late" and boom it's done. Insert other names and short sentences and it gets them pretty much everytime. It's a great feature and highly accurate.
