Here is why I think the Z30 will be DOA.

Blackberry will fail miserably at marketing the phone just as they did with the z10 and q10. There is still over 2 billion left in the bank to turn this company around and throw into boosting these phones but yet you don't see that happening....why is that? I think it's because BlackBerry really doesn't want bb10 to succeed they just want to look the most favorable for a potential buyer. Playing armchair CEO I would go as far as putting the company back in the whole if it meant I was successfully puttig the bb10 phones into competition with the rest of the market. The number one reason right now for BB's failure is their lack of marketing and doing nothing to change the negative sediment in North America . Don't even get me started on their pricing and mediocre specs....rant over or maybe just warming up.

It seems like it will be priced around 650$, BB never learns.
BB should price the phone with little margins, they need to move the devices.
Recent write down shows that its better to move some devices than keep stocks at warehouse.

If they wanted to look more favorable to a buyer wouldn't you think they would want bb10 to be some sort of success?

Purely speculation is that they were looking for a buyer half way through producing bb10 and just wanted it released, thinking they would have a buyer prior to a full launch. Again just playing devils advocate. How could you possibly expect a platform to succeed given the lack of marketing support? I can count on my hand how many times I saw a commercial for a bb10 phone...

Depends. They've shown that they can deliver a great OS, but the marketing side is at fault, as is the sales side. If I were a prospective buyer, I would see this as a plus. Get the good parts (noc, bb10, bes) and toss the top tier of executives out, with no parachute either. They had a much better chance than anyone would have honestly thought, but once again, marketing failed, Sales did not price competitively, and they have a glut of inventory leftover to write off. Again.

I agree, I love the OS albeit a little unpolished but it has amazing potential. Marketing leads to their failures as a company.

I just wonder to discover that many BB users think that BB10 requires BIS.
BIS always distracted me from trying BB phone.

May be they should made BIS optional from the beginning, i.e. only if you want push mail. And keep that for BB10 also.

Now there is a comic/tragic situation: the few users remaining stayed because of BIS and QWERTY. BB10 can't deliver full experience for both of them.

Speculate. Then speculate, then speculate some more. Success or failure is judged by history ex post facto. Prognosticators will prognosticate. I have been amply happy with my Z10. When the Z30 is released I will buy as well. I will let the purveyors of opinion based upon Ill gotten information use confirmation bias to suppose their position.

I think it has a reasonable chance of standing out on the shelf, if they get placement. The larger size will help it attract, and I wish they would have done this instead of the Z10. That plus BB10 release being like 10.2 would have helped a lot. We shall see.

I could think of a dozen ideas for ads right now that would help it sell. I don't think the problem is the lack of marketing, it is the type of marketing. They show a picture of the Hub in a 10 second commercial...like that tells anyone anything. How about a bunch of folks in an elevator and the only one able to talk on the phone is the Z30 user...or a family stranded in the boonies and the only one that can make a call is a passer-by with a Z30...or an emergency worker who has one because it gets a great signal and is a superior communications device. Anyone still remember the phrase "can you hear me now?". How about a side by side typing competition? Inform+entertain=sales. Play to their strengths and stop trying to brag about getting an app that everyone else has had for years.

Unpolished as in official releases lack updated features that are the norm and expected (multiple alarms, hdr, battery life improvements, rebooting issues etc etc) the general public should not have to dl leaks IMO. 10.2 will correct these issues but 10.0 and 10.1 were not good enough representatives for what B10 is. Overall the management has done a great job at accelerating B10 (software) but a poor job at building a foundation for it to be successful. Phones over priced, mis-marketed, carrier support etc etc.

The Z10 is an awesome phone with solid enough specs to support a very efficient OS. The Z30 has somewhat beefed up specs and an incredible battery. It may fail, but it won't be because it is a bad phone, because it is not. The Z10 didn't fail because it was a bad phone either, it was poor execution by a poor management team. At this point, they should absolutely use cash reserves to pay devs of the top apps (not that I use most of them) to deploy native. And, price the phones extremely aggressively to regain market share and consumer buzz.
