Ok here is my dilemma - need a new phone and I am struggling between the blackberry or iphone 5s. I am a complete blackberry fan, currently on the bold 9900, had them for the past 10 years and love them but wife and friends all on the iphone. I don't use a lot of apps just simple stuff (email, texting, Internet, Skype). I want the z30 but don't know if I can hold out for it or should I just get the z10 or switch to the iphone. Wife is sick of eve talking about it and just wants me to make a decision - any suggestions?

Go with a BlackBerry. My wife also has an iPhone but it's not for me.

If you don't need the ecosystem of the iPhone, I'd definitely recommend the Z30. It's too amazing for words.

Do you know what model is compatible with your carrier? I just mailed out two STA100-5s yesterday, to people in the states. I can do it again if I can find a store with one in stock.

Here are the specs for the -5...I see 2100 but not 1700. I'll try to dig up that frequencies chart for the Z30.
    Network: 4G LTE (LTE): 700MHz (Band 17) / 850MHz (Band 5) / 1900MHz (Band 2) / AWS (Band 4) / 2600MHz (Band 7)
    4G (HSPA): 2100MHz (Band I) / 1900MHz (Band II) / AWS (Band IV) / 850MHz (Band V)
    2.5G (GSM): 850MHz / 900MHz / 1800MHz / 1900MHz

Like you said, if apps arent a issue, a Q10 or Z30 will more than satisfy your needs. IMO, BB10 trumps all operating systems in terms of multi-tasking and communication!

I would wait for Z30, it's a great phone with nice features and security. If you don't want to wait, than buy Z10 and save some money.

Well if this thread is to be believed, the -5 does support 1700 and is supposed to be the T-Mobile USA variant.

Get the Z30 if you can. I started with the Style, went with the Q10(love it), then the iphone5 (to appease the wife), big mistake. Now, waiting for the Z30 from Verizon.

Wait for the Z30. If you have the 9900 the app situation is not a problem for you and BB10 would be an upgrade in that respect. Just test the Z10 first to make sure you can handle the touchscreen typing. The autocorrect is amazing and I can type blindfolded while stationary, coming from a 9810. The lack of a physical keyboard is sorely felt when trying to type and walk...it's pretty much impossible.

I would get the Z30. Reason is best security, better, bigger, smart keyboard,Bigger screen, better sound quality, more durable, bigger battery, BBM, Micro SD card, micro HDMI, less expensive.

You know what's funny is I used to be all about the physical keyboard with my Bold 9700. It took me some getting used to the Z10 touch keyboard, but just today I tried a Q10, and I don't think I can go back to a physical keyboard!

Me too. Bought my wife the Q10 and I am so used to the Z10 touch screen that it feels foreign to type on a physical keyboard.

I'd say make sure you're ok with giving up the keyboard. Apparently the Zs offer the absolute best touch keyboard experience but I haven't tried it myself. if I did go touch, I'd for sure get the 30. The BB10 OS is truly a cut above the iO4 and all this talk about "ecosystems" and lack of apps on BB10 is a lot of baloney. Sure, there aren't 100,000 different clock apps for BlackBerry but all of the really important apps are there (and no, snapchat and instagram are not truly important LOL).

If you want to elevate yourself to a mobile computing experience, go BB10. If angry birds is your passion.... well, you get the idea.

They're important for some people. Zello was a deal-breaker app for me...I doubt that's the case for most people. Allow them to make their own choices.

Z30 is just next level, particularly for the usage you specified.

Unless you want to save some $$ I can't see any reason to get the Z10 instead of the Z30.

A number of us on this thread, it would seem, are currently using the Z30 so shoot some specific questions and we can help you out

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments - I put the iphone back in the mail to be returned earlier this afternoon. Now if Blackberry would only bring the 30 to this US soon, as I am getting impatient waiting for it!
