Seriously. The screen of the Z30 is like daggers stabbing my eyes. I have high tolerance for such things but whenever I pick up the Z30 it just strains it to oblivion.

I have never suffered from such things on my other phones.

I always have to adjust the screen on my Z10. It's quite annoying.

No its not weird. From the online reSearches I've done and my brief ownership of my own Z30. AMOLED screens compared with IPS displays are terrible on the eyes.

It hurts me to say that as well. As the Blacks as in BLACKberry are true to color. Since no lights are emitting from the screen to give that true Black color.

I was glad to see the Windermere device is rumored to have an LCD display and I hope that the rumored Z50 does as well. Seems to me the only company making profit of these AMOLED displays in phones are Samsung who of course manufacture them. Also maybe the Lumia 1020 or Moto X.

Maybe BlackBerry engineers can do some serious tinkering to make the AMOLED displays bearable. Also the software team at BlackBerry and App developers giving a dark theme to everything also helps I guess. But it still sort of bugged me when reading the white text.

Reading this post is causing my eyes to tear up.
I was used to AMOLED screens in th past but since I moved to a Nexus for more than a month, my eyes are getting fudged by the Berry.

If a Z30 screen hurts your eyes, stay the hell away from all Z10s you come across.

Also, go find a doctor pronto.

The Z10 is much easier on the eyes. Curious as to what AMOLED displays you used in the past. As I said Samsung seems to be the only game in town and I heard they use a Pen Tile execution of their AMOLED's. Making them even worse.

    I had a Z10, Q10, Q5 and Z30.

Z10 has the best display of the lineup. Never caused this much pain.

Last Samsung I used was Note 2...

You can't even see the sub pixel arrangement on modern super ambled screens.

No you can't. You are not super human.

That was almost, if not invisible on the S3 and certainly not visible on any of their latter flagship.

Also Samsung has used RBG on some of their Super Amoled panels.

My eyes don't strain using the Z30. Unless I'm scrolling, I don't like to look at the screen when it's scrolling, that's the only time my eyes feel weird looking at any screen.

Folks, I am an ophthalmologist and know something about optics and human ocular physiology (ok, a lot). While you may have trouble focusing and you may have some evaporative tear film issues (incipient dry eye) there is NOTHING that these screens could be doing to your eyes. Just trying to dispel rumors with a touch of fact.

    AMOLED Displays Kill My Eyes

I'm not arguing whether AMOLED displays do any actual damage to the eyes. All I'm saying is they are unpleasant to view for reading or the like. Where as the IPS screens are not.

I do have dry eyes and whenever I use eye drops my vision becomes blurry and..... grainy? can't explain it, it's just weird on my end.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the screen, try adjusting the colour temps and the brightness, how much time do you spend on the phone anyway? Extended usage definitely affects the eyes regardless if the screen type, pen tile or not those studies are loads of BS and only used for marketing and bad mouthing other products, if no one told me I wouldn't know the difference!!

I agree with the OP, I find the screen to be a bit "agressive", the minimum brightness is to much and is unbearable in a complete dark room, especially before going to sleep...

Exactly. AMOLED displays are to dim in daylight and to bright at night.
