24000 isn't a contact list, it's called the yellow pages.

Should be 100% manageable by any modern smartphone.

I think your problem can be remedied by loading, doing a selective restore from a backup of your 9900 (contacts calendar passwords bookmarks etc. don't restore everything. Also, if you need sms restore "sms" but don't restore "text messages")
then most importantly, open device monitor in the settings and wait for the cpu usage to drop. After it drops and stays under 10% then add any services you need to sync (contacts, Facebook, email etc) but do them one at a time and wait for cpu usage to drop before doing another

If you still have your 9900.. you might want to keep using it until the next 10.2.1 leak. The current one has been rock solid for me, except for the proximity sensor issue and a couple of feature that simply don't work yet, but most people seem to be having issues with it. Bb10 is missing much of what was loved from bb7 and prior. 10.2.1 brings a lot of that back. Group contacts for example, notify of messages during calls and much more

I think you need a notebook with a speedy processor/ enough memory and a SDD Harddisk and still it will be lagging to search a person but it's a lot of people in one phone.

To make my last post clear, I usually run into issues when I do too many things at once. For example, if j sync twitter Facebook and set up bbm at the same time, my contacts get screwed up, pictures don't download etc. But if I do them one at a time and wait for them to finish in between, all is well

I have 248 contacts and 17000 people with corperate messenger but they are all on the server at work. That works great.

    To the OP,

The good news is that BlackBerry is fully aware of the issues with SMS taking forever to load.

The bad news is that there is no time frame for when they'll have a fix. Hopefully sooner rather ran later, because I'm having this issue too! Resolution in the meantime would be to delete message threads that have a long history.

Not sure if this is the case but it seems to me that some indexing takes place after a reboot. At least it seems that way with my contacts.

Yep, I have similar problems re: 2, 4 & 5 - my solution to problem 4 (battery life) is to turn off 4G (at which point I usually manage to get a medium days' usage before the phone starts giving me warning messages)

I only have about 900 linked contacts, but this is probably over 4,000 contacts before I linked them (if that makes any sense). The Search utility is useless, and I often have to open the Contacts Application (and then it still isn't foolproof)

Fingers crossed they sort this all out in the next release

First off welcome. From the responses so far there doesn't seem to be a hard solution for you at this time. I keep reminding myself that when BB stepped up from os7 to BB10 everything changed, not only for us the consumer, but for the development teams at BB. It's gonna take a while for sure.

I would have suggested to contact search by company or develop your own search codes in other fields but 24000...whew, that's a lot of work. For the meantime can you continue to use your 9900/9930? That seems to be the interim resolve. As you know the 9900/9930 is an excellent capable device.

With so many contacts and correspondingly-long SMS history, I'm guessing the device is hard at work attempting to index all the data. If you just keep tinkering around, changing things and rebooting in hopes of fixing anything you are likely (a) creating more data deltas for the phone to re-index and (b) interrupting the indexing process. I've seen my sister and my wife do this with countless laptops, phones, etc. They just get flustered and keep opening/closing and deleting/readding things and then, in frustration, just slam on the power button, never giving it time to finish any of the tasks.

As was stated above, your contact list is quite large... perhaps whatever indexing and data pre-fetching BB10 uses doesn't scale up as quickly as one would expect.

Try deleting any long sms conversations you have or all sms conversations and see if it improves. Also stop comparing Bb10 to BB7. Although bb10 is new, BB7 is a fully mature OS. It's like saying a 5 year old is better at things than a 30 year old. I know that's an extreme comparison. Also with the new operating system it sounds like you may need to adjust the way you use mobile devices as well. 24000 contacts on a mobile device is a bit extreme. Even Apple will have issues with that.

Like I said, bb10 is not on par with bb7 (bb10 is inferior when it comes to actual features.. 10.2.1 just got speed dial..). 10.2.1 is getting there, but 10.2 definitely still isn't there yet in terms of features...

Personally the only issue I have had since loading this on my Z30 is battery life is poorer however it's a leaked version not meant for general public use so I knew there would be some issues and I accept that if this was a official version that would be different and I would expect everything to be working properly.

Really? Maybe you should figure out a better way to have your contact list effectively organized. I think you are an outliner. 24000 contacts is a lot unless you've got many duplications. Or maybe try another platform and see how that goes.

How could anyone has 24000 contacts? What for? Spamming?
Any phone couldn't take it..bb7 or not.
My 9900 is now a dinosaur, laggy and slow compared to Z30. Bb10 is miles ahead and no turning back.

24,000 contacts?! Good god man, time for a mobile CRM maybe?

Anyway, I feel for your issues, don't really know what to suggest. I would not doubt at all if this was at least in part brought on by the massive contact list that you have.

I am running on, so I don't know if this setting was in earlier builds, but have you tried going into Settings, Search, and turn off the Search History option, and under Categories, perhaps uncheck Text Messages. Maybe playing with settings there might help.
