I have been using Blackberry from the 857 days and am a complete addict. Im completely heartbroken by Q10 and the z30 has some niggling problems. Can one of your gurus please help me?

Im on and 1791 build firmware (leaked version). Many of these issues are there in Q10 also.

    1. I send and receive about 100 SMS a day. When I tap on any contact to send an SMS, it takes about 20-30 seconds for the prior history to "show up" before which one cannot start typing a new SMS for the box to type simply doesn't come up. Very annoying.

    2. In call log even numbers saved in the device, the names do not show up . One has to hold the number, then goto the contact card and then re-dial. (Never happened in Bold 9900)

    3. Frequently SMS' typed and after you hit send, simply disappear. Then SMS functionality stops working, till i hard reset the device. (Never happened on Bold 9900)

    4. Device battery lasts me about 4 to 5 hours of just calls and SMS. No browsing or wifi or video or gaming.

    5. SEARCH: You simply CANNOT search inside contacts, with two terms in the search box. For example if you have about 25 "Smith" in your contacts, you cannot search with name + company name together. And if you search on just "Smith" you will get all the smiths but WITHOUT their company name so you won't know at a glance as to who is who. (Not the case with Bold 9900.)

    6. Voice Dictation is bad. For it is NOT Dragon based. Is there anyway to get Dragon Nuance on it?

    7. Try calling someone in a hurry, you simply can't. I have 24000 contacts and it takes it a lot of time to reach the correct contact. (This was NOT the case with Bold 9900.).

Pros: Excellent keyboard perhaps the best virtual keyboard; very good 5" screen and build quality; Some good third party apps though no ZIte.

Unless I find a solution to these I will be forced to, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, consider Apple Iphone 5s.

Please help for I don't want to leave BB just yet.

I agree with #1. This sometimes happens. Luckily I got most of my sms friends to switch to bbm, which seems to run smoothly

Rebooted it over a dozen times. I am talking precisely about using search inside contacts. Try doing it.

And don't go to the 5s go for the z10 instead, I have it and it's amazing Nd with the 10.2 update I am getting 20 hours batter life even with heavy music, video watching, texting, mailing, and some gaming! And I use wifi all the time! And the z10 display is a million times better than the z30 display! And besides z30 is only a fraction second faster, And the z10 is way better in all aspects, . He the z10 rather. Than the 5s coz a BlackBerry user can't cope up with an ios toy!

BlackBerry used to license from Nuance for voice recognition/dictation. That's certainly true for BBOS7. I wonder if it's still the same for BB10...

That's a lot of Contacts. Guess that could be why. Not seeing those problems here with a little over 400 contacts. Hope you figure something out.

I find the universal search faster than the contact search, even when just looking for contacts.

But there was never a problem with 24000 contacts on BB OS7. why on a supposedly improved version ?

BlackBerry tech support should be best qualified to deal with this.

here a sample that work on my phone

    let's say I have 50 John Smith

30 of them have john.smith@gmail.com (real life impossible but it's an example)

one of them have the company "test", but also one other John Smith that doesn't have john.smith@gmail.com have this company (so you don't want to get him too)

here's how I can search for him

    john smith@john.smith@test
I can also add a number to the search

    john smith@john.smith@test@12345678901
if you want to just search for smith and not john smith

but I'm on, I'm not sure if it work like that with older OS.

EDIT: sorry to john.smith@gmail.com for posting his email ;p

Try deleting any long sms conversations you have or all sms conversations and see if it improves. Also stop comparing Bb10 to BB7. Although bb10 is new, BB7 is a fully mature OS. It's like saying a 5 year old is better at things than a 30 year old. I know that's an extreme comparison. Also with the new operating system it sounds like you may need to adjust the way you use mobile devices as well. 24000 contacts on a mobile device is a bit extreme. Even Apple will have issues with that.

I've had the same issues with SMS lag when i had 4000+ messages in the conversation. however they went away when i cleared the history. Of course i backed it up using a third party app so i'd always have history. Not an ideal option but it worked for me.

Any device in my experience when filled up with that much data (contacts, texts, etc) will begin to lag. 24000 contacts is not a common occurrence. In fact, you might be the only person I have ever heard of who has that many contacts. I would assume that you never talk to the majority of those contacts but I could be wrong.

24,000 contacts? Wow. I would reload the OS. Five hours of battery life with just calls and texting sounds wrong. Although if you're texting 24,000 people who knows.

I am using a Z10 and have never experienced these issues even with the stock OS my phone had when I got it. I only have 1,283 contacts and do not use SMS either. I have heard that people have the SMS issue and solved it by adding an app to backup them. Look in the forums on this.

No issues with searching contacts, message dictation (even with my Latin accent when speaking English), phone dialing ( only a slight problem when using voice and asking it to dial an unusual non English name although it seems to learn your accent over time) or phone log, or any other you mentioned. The only issue u have (and has not been fixed) is pre-pending a number for dialing. If you need to add country code and city code to a number you copied from a message or any other place and then try to past that number, then the country and city code will be erased. You cannot move the cursor to add the codes either.

24000 isn't a contact list, it's called the yellow pages.

With that quantity of contacts and SMS going on, the phone is working hard to index all that stuff for universal search. That probably explains some of your issues.
