After four hours of mild usage I've already gone down to 70 percent. Is that normal?

    Hi! Welcome to CB!!!

I would say that yes, for a new device that sounds right on target. Questions for you - do you live near a good signal? is your bluetooth on while not in use? is your wifi on when not in use? is your brightness at 30% or so? what apps have you loaded and have open? how many email accounts and what have you set them to, push or fetch?

    - Turn off keyboard sounds.
    - Turn off allow gestures while locked
    - Turn off Bluetooth, NFC, Hotspot and Tethering if unseeded.
    - Use WiFi as much as possible.
    - Use 3G instead of 4G or even 2G if you really want your battery to last.
    - Turn brightness down to <30%. I have it on 0% as in different lighting conditions, 0% will be as bright as 100%
    - If you have multiple emails, turn off push and have the most important set to sync every 3 minutes and the rest every 1-4 hours.
    - Uninstall applications you never use including default ones (Evernote I deleted as it drains battery and I will never use it)
    - Give a new Z30 a week (including if you have updated software or loaded a week) for everything to settle in.
    - You should wait for your battery to deplete until it hits 30% full before charging so you can properly cycle it. Dont keep topping it up.

Give it some time, a week or so, for the OS to settle down.
