What is a PayPass tag and where/how do you get one?
I believe currently only my bank offers it in Canada. It's a separate small NFC / RIFID card that is linked directly to my credit card as a supplementary card. It's limited to $50 like other paypass. But this way I don't need to take my wallet out, just tap my phone and go. It's free, all you do is call in and ask. It's also set to email/sms me everytime it is used.

Technically you could add a supplementary card to any account. Trim the card smaller and stick it, but then you would need to know where exactly the NFC part of the card is embedded in the card

Very clever - although I guess you couldn't use your phone's NFC as well for a transaction not involving your BMO card (eg. a Tim Horton's app) ?

True but why would I need yet another account when Timmies takes paypass now too?

My understanding is that most retailers in the U.S. don't use anything other than the old mag-stripe credit card readers. So tap and pay isn't available at most places. I read recently that over 90% of the credit cards in the US do not have either the chip or the nfc tap feature.

If you're in the States you can use the PayPass Locator and find places to use Google Wallet, ApplePay and other US based NFC payment systems.

    It's fascinating in the U.S.

All my new cards have chips in them. For the past 18 months or so, all cards have come chipped. Many stores have chip/paypass readers. None of them take the chips and the vast majority have disabled the readers. I used to be able to use paypass in quite a few places. Not anymore.

Also, when I use the cards in Canada, they cause great confusion, because even though I use the chip reader, I still have to sign the receipt. Throws them off every time. A lot of them don't have pens handy anymore.

I use the Ugo app in my Z30. It supports TD Visa and PC Financial Mastercard cards and the Rogers, Bell, and Telus networks.

BTW, on the Z30 the NFC antenna is not the BlackBerry logo, as someone suggested earlier. It is however the NFC antenna on the Z10. You can see the electrical contacts to logo on the back of the battery door.
